Recruiting Discussion

Turner is debateable because of his reclassifying, but if you give that one and reword...how many Top 125 guards do we have it eliminated the bulk of that group.

With that said, I don’t think many people have much issue with Bone/Turner, I think most would sign up for 2 more of them.

We also just lost 2 unranked guys off the roster.

Bone and Turner are both right at 150 in my book. Bone is 146 and Turner I believe was at 130 or so before reclassifying which dropped him out of the top 150.

We have NOBODY coming up behind them right now on the roster. That's the concern with guard even moreso than recruiting rankings.

Tuner was 92. I linked it for you

Of course they should. The status quo is what we need

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with saying can we do better? Bone is a 2 year starter, heading into junior year he’s been solid but I wouldn’t say he’s a Top 3 Pg in the league, so can we improve there? Lamonte Turner is in his 3rd year in the program, SEC 6th man so hard to complain much there, but can you find a guy who’s 1st team instead?

In short...Bone/Turner/Bowden all needed a year understandably to get to where they are, if you add guys a bit more highly ranked and skilled from Day 1 can they be better players from the jump? Therefore giving them higher ceilings?

Nothing wrong with saying we can do better. Hell I hope we do better

But saying we have to do better or our success is gone is a problem

lol. You don't use 247.

So you use only rivals?

247 sucks and their composite is a joke. I prefer rivals and only use 247 when there's a kid who hasn't been evaluated by rivals yet.

Typically rivals is slower but 247 just likes to throw a ranking out there.

Agree as well, ask this question last year with Darrington and Daniel on roster and ratio is different. I’ve said guard is my only worry, ideally gotta land at least 2 in 2019 imo.

I hate the composite but the 247 ranking itself is worth Just as much as any.

As far as scout being gone, regardless their rankings are taken into account of our current roster

So pulling all this together it appears Ziti, BTO and myself are fine with replacing Bone, Turner and Bowden with similarly ranked prospects. Hopefully we do better but what we have now is fine. Common ground

Yeah. But Bruin is saying status quo is good. Just gotta get 3 more Bone, Bowden and Turner to commit in the same class.

Never mind Kwe Parker, Shembarri Phillips, Chris Darrington, James Daniel that we have had that aren't here anymore.

Sure attrition is part of the process.
So if we end up with Bone, Turner and Bowden in the 19 class that is a success.

If we have to wait until 2020 we need more immediately ready players coming in

Better hope we don't get Kwe, Shembarri and Darrington in the next class then.

Cause those 2020 guys aren't gonna wanna come in and sit remember? We will have signed 3 guards in the class ahead of them.

Attrition is part of it. But we've set this roster up where we don't need misses in 2019.

The 2020 class could be a mulligan class if the 19 class doesn't hit. That's why it's more important.

The 2020 class won't see a roster with returning starters all over it. That's simple but you are just trying to be an ass about that. The 20 class will see wide open compition for major roles regardless of the success of the 19 class.

We are closer than you think but I think we have to do better in our overall recruiting.

You're focusing on the 3 "hits" and their rankings.

I would love to see us add a guard with higher upside (and ranking) than those 3. I don't think there's anything wrong with that. Try not to turn it into me dissing those 3 guys.

I'd love to add a gaurd like that as well.

The difference is I am not going to let that hope dampen the excitement I have for the future because I know we can succeed without it

You know we can go to 1 tourney in 3 years. That's what you know at this point.

We also need to keep landing SEC POY by beating out Ivy league schools since that is part of the equation to this point.

Ok so you don't believe we are going to be good this year?

As for Williams it appears you don't subscribe to the belief that recruiting rankings should be thrown out and rewritten after players get on the court for our eyes to evaluate. Last year the SEC was dominated but two guys that the nerds behind the computers didn't like. Not sure why we can't just talk about players as players on the court and not on paper
