In the future as in 2020?
1 guy is not enough to minimize the importance of the 2019 class.
1 underclassmen adder this year means 3 open spots on paper for 2019...
2015 had Schofield, Turner and Alexander
2016 had Bone, Bowden, Williams, Fulk
2017 had Pons, Walker, Kent
So if 2019 has 3 or even 4 signees who become rotational pieces how is that class anymore important than 2015 or 2016 were?
We have been thru this countless times. Countless.
You refuse to entertain the thought that the number of guys in the class is not what makes it the most important.
I get it, we lose people...but we lose people off a NCAAT team, how is that more important in being good than losing people off an already bad team??
Because I dont wanna go back into a 3 year rebuild. Do you?
Also we dont have the luxury of giving the 2019 signees the lions share of the minutes for 2 years of sub .500 ball to develop.
The reason we differ on this so much is because you see nobody developing into SEC level players on this roster that are currently underclassmen, I do. You are basically going off the assumption that 1-2 guys on this roster will be good and therefore the 2019 class is going to have to have 3-4 guys all getting 25+mpg.
Loving the early returns on 2019 guys, could be a very nice class.
Wrong. I think Pons and Walker are gonna be hits. They can replace Admiral and Kyle.
I dont see replacements yet for any guards or Grant.
Making the assumption that Kent, Johnson and Fulk are all gonna develop into what we have now is dangerous IMO. Not to mention we have pretty much no 1 or 2 guard underclassmen right now.
Seems like we are hitting the trail much harder than in the past.
Personally I think the caliber of player we can land is now better and we are taking a different approach. We arent looking for diamonds in the rough or hoping someone comes available in the spring. I think we want 2-3 guys signed in the fall for the 19 class.
We probably disagree, shocker, but I dont think theyre hitting the trail any harder...meaning I dont think Barnes wasnt doing in-homes before but is now, Barnes wasnt leaving Knoxville before but is now, we werent using all our evaluation days but are now, werent attending AAU events but are now...I think all that stuff is the same. I think the difference is that they now had a chance to identify guys young man do build relationships with them, and it happened coming off the heels of a great season, so good combo.
I think when the 2016 & 2017 classes signed they knew 2018 was going to be a small class and they looked ahead...now the negative to that is obviously we dont have a commit and that has been your point, but in reality if they sign a 4-5 man Top 15-20 class in 2019 and redshirt 1 guy what did that matter?
I wouldnt be shocked if they signed 4 in the fall, but thats JMO.
I guess now that the excitement of the season has worn off, Chicken Little is back to believing the sky is falling. I suspect that in 8-9 months, when we are rolling again, he'll be back to "trusting Barnes".
He gives valid points imo. There's some things I question too when it comes to recruiting. I just sit back and let him take the heat though😀
And you know what, he may be right. I'll be the first to admit it if and when they do. If they blow this 2019 class, that may be the first big step toward their downfall. And I'll be next in line to say that what they are doing isn't working. I just see no evidence of that yet and I won't arrogantly pretend to know more about their current and future plans than they do.
SMH.
Rick Barnes is not the messiah guys.
You can question things and criticize things without it being against him.
Good grief.
Absolutely...but Vols30 recently said something to the effect of well hes proven me wrong, Im done doubting or questioning him...why say that if you dont mean it is what Im saying? And its not even as if something has happened that I would think would warrant changing your stance one way or the other.
