If you watched Grant or Jarnell in the RTL you’d have thought they were pick up players from the local Y, never base judgement (especially big men) from the RTL imo.

Again, the staff has remained very optimistic about him and Barnes made sure that was known in his presser yesterday, don’t usually see that coming from RB if he doesn’t believe it...sure didn’t give the same praise for CD.

I think it's fair to judge athletic ability in that league. Kent doesn't have that

If Kent can't help us we made a terrible decision to redshirt him. Now maybe he ends up being a bust but to redshirt a guy who isn't injured if you know he can't help you is bad management.

Most guys his size don’t...if they do then they are a projected lottery pick coming out of HS. Luke Kornet which is who this staff compares Kent to wasn’t athletic at all, especially if you go back and watch his early day tape. It was the negative to him, pick and roll would eat him up all the time and he struggled 1-1 defensively in the post...but having a 5 man with that shooting ability offsets that’s somewhat.

Agreed...believe it or not this staff is VERY high on him, whether that comes to fruition or not we will see, but they are expecting him to be a factor.

His shooting ability is his only plus. Korbut had some leaping ability and blocked some shots. Kent can't do that. Kent is waaaay under any of our bigs in the last 5 years. Owens and Alexander were head and shoulders better than him at that age

He's the same height as Alexander so his shooting isn't his only plus.

Are we talking about the same Kornet? He couldn’t jump enough to fit a phone book under him, he was just 7’ so he blocked shots, I believe Kent will do the same. Might not be next year but Kornet was 4ppg 2rpg 0.6bpg his first year playing at Vandy, he wasn’t the player you’re referencing until later on.

I have seen kornet play a number of times in person. Kent isn't close to his athleticism

How do you Akinjo or Harris couldn’t have a similar impact, that was the point? You claim you prefer a 21 year old JUCO over a 18 year old, I’m simply pointing out what is wrong with that very generic statement.

It wasn't a generic statement. It's specifically referring to Darrington and the possible signees. It's also related to losing CD in favor of a 2nd addition to the 2018-19 roster. I'd trade a freshman Bernard King for Williams, Walker, Schofield, plus Alexander.

Sophomore CJ Walker from FSU is transferring. 4star out of high school. Would have to sit a year.

Started 34 out of 35 games. 8.0 pts a game.

CJ WALKER

Well unless you have a crystal ball you have no clue what Harris or Akinjo or whoever they sign will bring to the table...as I said, it’s likely Turner plays over Darrington if the roster stayed as is, so regardless of if they added a PG or not Darrington was unlikely to crack the “main rotation”. Therefore it makes even more sense to add a freshman or you’re going to find yourself without many experienced options pretty quickly.

FWIW Ramey and 247 have pretty much said without saying that Darrington is leaving...people were discussing Kent or Fulk etc and Ramey loafed the guys he didn’t think would transfer, Darrington’s name wasn’t mentioned.

33% shooting isn’t exactly lighting the world on fire. If darrington shot more he might average 10. When he did play, he hardly shot the ball. (Confidence)

I believe I've already said that TN needs to add a guard to the freshman class or a 3 for 2 transfer to the Walker, Pons, Kent, Johnson, Fulkerson class. But I don't care to trade away Darrington. IMO he'll add value in 2018-19. Turner doesn't excite me as the alternate PG and since the PG is the most cerebral spot I'm not expecting much from a freshman. Bone and Turner stand around a lot. Darrington looks to make entry passes first.

Darrington kind of disappeared when Daniel became the backup to Bone. It wouldn't surprise me if he were to improve his status significantly if he's getting practice reps with the 2nd 5. Once Daniel took command of the backup PG duties I suspect that Darrington was spending a lot of practice minutes with ZK and the walk-ons. If Darrington, Turner, Johnson/Pons/Fulkerson, and Kent are going against the starting 5 everyday in practice I expect that his timing, familiarity with teammates, and confidence will grow.

All of this is moot though if he transfers out. I hope he stays.

So pull minutes from Bone/Turner/Bowden?

With Daniel gone, he should definitely have minutes available. And if Bowden continues to struggle, chip 4-5 minutes off of him. Give him 6 minutes a game, and have him take 1-2 shots a game. If he continues to struggle, then you’ve done all you can do.
