Based on? What about Akinjo? Lots of assumptions on your part in this post, and even if they didn’t land either of those guys and landed someone lesser rated, I see it more likely as Turner being the backup PG over Darrington. You add Johnson and Pons to the rotation and it eliminates a lot of Bowden’s minutes at the 3, so now he’s playing more 2 which pulls from Turner’s minutes there, makes sense he would see some time at the 1 since he already did this year as well.

I'll take Akinjo. But the original comment was the best player to lose. I said I want to keep CD on the roster because he's the best option to backup Bone. Darrington would be a 21 year old, JUCO AA, with a year's experience in the program. I prefer that over an 18 year with high school experience when a game is on the line.

Please don't let it be JJ. JJ has so much talent and I think if he stays healthy all off-season, he will make the kind of jump, we have seen with everybody on the team. Fulk's the exception, but, like JJ, Fulk wasn't healthy.

Agreed. That article on darrington really makes me want to see him succeed here. And jj is a really good player. Why we refused to play him towards the end I’ll never understand

Tony Harris could come in right now and be a better basketball player than Darrington. I know you think everyone on the team is good or will improve by leaps and bounds, but coaches miss. It happens. Darrington showed nothing last year that he is a capable, consistent SEC player. If you can bring in a legit freshmen guard, and Darrington leaves, then you take that deal

Punter didn’t show much his first year either.(was still a fan though. Just like darrington)

Johnson had surgery 2 months before the season. I don't think that he was able to fully recover and then get up to speed.

I think that if Darrington is around in 2018-19 he'll add value.

2017-18 - JUNIOR

Battled an ankle injury early in the season but has scored multiple points in 14 games this season

Enjoyed his most productive game in Tennessee’s win over Lipscomb (12/9/17), as his 11 points, five assists and three rebounds were all season-highs

Dropped six points behind a pair of threes in UT’s win over NC State (11/24/17)

After missing all of the exhibition season with an ankle injury, he played 15 minutes in Tennessee's season-opening victory over Presbyterian (11/10/17), finishing with four points, three assists, no turnovers and a steal in his debut with the Volunteers.

SUMMER 2017

Had the top scoring average on the team during Tennessee's three-game European exhibition tour, averaging 14.3 points per game.

Scored a team-high 19 points, including 11 in the second half, during UT's 86-79 win over the Catalan All-Stars (8/4/17).

2016-17 - SOPHOMORE (VINCENNES UNIVERSITY)

As a sophomore in 2016-17, Darrington earned first-team NJCAA Division I All-America honors and helped Vincennes to a 32-3 record and a District XVI championship.

Led the Trailblazers in points (20.7) and assists (5.1) while also boasting a 2.2 assist-to-turnover ratio and shooting .431 from 3-point range (he shot .250 from beyond the arc as a freshman the previous year).

Attempted 245 free throws--third-most in NJCAA--and shot .804 at the foul line.

Was the only player in NJCAA to average more than 20.0 ppg while also appearing in 35 or more games in 2016-17.

Logged 17 games of 20-plus points, including a career-best 45 in a road win at Indian Hills in early December.

Scored 30 or more points in eight games in 2016-17, highlighted by a stretch of three consecutive 30-point outings in mid-February and a 33-point showing--featuring seven made 3-pointers--in Vincennes' victory over Northern Oklahoma Enid in its opening game of the NJCAA Tournament.

So you would take Darrington over SGA from Kentucky? Or Sexton at Bama? Or Waters at LSU?

Guard is a bigger need and I don't see him as being a contributor down the line ever.

For someone that has started to put a lot of stock in what Barnes says and his player development that take surprises me...they expect big things from Kent in the future, Darrington not so much. Is the team any better with/without Darrington next season? I don’t think so.

Hard to base things off of the rocky top league but what I saw of kent last year wasn't good. Very unathletic

Also I was the one that said all the walker talk was premature after seeing him there as well

If you watched Grant or Jarnell in the RTL you’d have thought they were pick up players from the local Y, never base judgement (especially big men) from the RTL imo.

Again, the staff has remained very optimistic about him and Barnes made sure that was known in his presser yesterday, don’t usually see that coming from RB if he doesn’t believe it...sure didn’t give the same praise for CD.
