Very positive article from 247 on Petrusev...

Summary...Tennessee was leader heading into weekend visits, Gonzaga & Utah visits were good, but Tennessee did a really good job early with him. Tennessee is only school that made trip to Europe to watch him play and talk with his father, who is ultimately in charge of his recruitment and that gesture from Barnes and staff resonated well with his dad.

Surprising article from 247 considering they are the ones claiming all the momentum being on Gonzaga's side, hopefully that momentum has died down.

Hypothetically speaking...if we added Petrusev and then get Kent off of a redshirt, next season we would have some serious height on this team. Alexander, Kent and Petrusev would all go 6'10"+, with 2 of those guys being able to shoot from the perimeter, would be the most length a Tennessee team has had since I can remember.

I heard via twitter that he went to check florida out yesterday. I believe it was Adam Zagoria. Any updates on when he might commit? Also when is National Signing Day for bball in November?

VQ saying Tennessee & Gonzaga appear to be the 2 favorites, decision could come in the next week. The early playing time at Tennessee is a key selling feature, but Gonzaga's success with European guys is attractive to him as well. He continues to remain in constant contact with the Tennessee staff and they made a trip to see him on Tuesday.

Gasp! The NCAA and FBI will come alookin'!

Did Barnes go?

Is he 100% a take for the Zags? I know you posted a few weeks ago he might not be a priority

Not sure on who went, wish I could tell you.

Yes he's a priority for Gonzaga, there was some talk he may be behind some guys but since that time Gonzaga has fallen behind with some guys.

Not good on him being a priority.

Tennessee has outworked them here but I doubt it's enough. Only second guess is Barnes presumedly using his visit too soon but it's hard to argue with the work put in on this one.

Yea I don't think there's much you can point to and say they should've done differently. One of the biggest things is their favor is that Barnes and staff went to Europe to see him and his family, something no other staff has done.

That says a lot about making him a priority. Hope it pays off

Proud of Barnes in this recruitment. Whether we land the kid or not, he's pulled out all the stops.

Personally, I think Currie has lit a fire under him but regardless I feel like he is out shaking trees now in recruiting. That's a positive step.

Barnes has done a great job bringing in 4 year players. Now need a few 1 and done and 2 and done type players to put us over the top.

I'd guess he's probably been doing it the same way he always has and the hand-wringers who wanted him grabbing 4 and 5*s by the handful from day 1 are just starting to see the fruits of his labor.

I disagree. I don't think he has worked hard enough on the recruiting trail and hasn't really targeted anyone that would require a ton of effort to land.

That seems to be changing and I don't think it is by accident.

My take is when he first got here none of the media had relationships with any of the staff so we didn't have access to what and where they were doing. Also I think now they feel much more confident of their recruiting approach and are willing to share more of the steps of the process with the media.

Up until they went after Pons they didn't really go after anyone in the top 100 and Pons was unknown at the time. Seems like we got beat out early on for a 4* kid by Will Wade who was thought to be a UT lean.

Whether we knew where Barnes was really at doesn't change the fact that we weren't having to battle in recruiting.

Anyways I am trying to give the guy a compliment here.

Landing Petrusev just before the start of the season and then having a solid season would be best case scenario...add Petrusev to a team that only loses James Daniel and is coming off say a 17-18 win season would be reason for excitement heading into the 2018-2019 season.

Went hard after Yurtseven.

You don't think it has anything to do with being another year removed from the dumpster fire that was Tennessee basketball when he took over? Or that he has vastly improved the talent level, balanced out the classes, and built a firm base and foundation to sell to bigger name recruits?

I think he targeted realistic prospects who were underrated rather than waste resources on guys he knew he had no chance of landing, and also built the foundation with solid, four-year contributors instead of chasing the high ranked kids he'd only have had for a year or two anyway. He was tasked with building a program, not building a team. You build a program the way he's done it, especially following such turmoil and national embarrassment. It just requires fans to be patient and understand it won't happen overnight like they'd want.

Amen to the logic

That may have had something to do with it. But it's just excuse making from fans for the most part. I wasn't even asking for top 20 players or anything like that. Just thought he should have targeted more talented players.

It's not a stretch to think he should have been working harder.

You guys make me regret giving the guy a compliment.
