The bad: Petrusev is going to take official visits to Utah and Gonzaga coming up. Barnes went to Florida last night to see Petrusev and was unable to lock down a commitment.

The good: Supposedly Gonzaga prefers Kamaka Hepa, so maybe Petrusev doesn't get the feeling he's their #1 priority like Tennessee did. Not clear whether or not parents with attend either of those visits with him.

.

Coaches only get so many contacts and evaluations. If they go to a school and only evaluate never meeting with the prospect it's just an evaluation. So yes they could do more than one of those.

You posted he failed to nail down the commitment which means he met with him to me. Did he meet with him?

So a coach is allowed 2 times to talk face to face with a player? Once on players OV and then once somewhere off campus? I don't believe that to be correct, and if it is then it's a rule not often followed or enforced. You see prospects from schools posting pictures every time Calipari or Coach K steps foot in their school to see them.

There is a short timeframe in a prospects junior year that coaches can meet with recruits that is in addition to this talk and the picture thing brings up the bump rule. If it's just a bump into thing it doesn't count but trying to convince a
Recruit to commit would. We know Barnes isn't going to get into the grey.

We also aren't sure of the details of said visit, and you aren't sure if the rule applies to football only, so...

The champ is here!

Just kidding.

Does anyone know why James Wiseman isn't considering us? I know he's the #1 player in 2019 now that RJ Barrett reclassified. Sure he's from Memphis but according to ESPN he's at the very least considering Vanderbilt.

Why isn't Tennessee at least in the convo for him? I mean Rick Barnes did recruit Kevin Durant. You would think that would work with these one and done kids.

Idk, believe he goes to Nashville Ensworth. U would have to figure he should be UTs number 1 target for '19

The amount of talent in the state of Tennessee for 2019 is pretty amazing.

In terms of college football, the state of Tennessee has 20 prospects in the class of 2019 rated as 4 stars or above. More than double the amount from 2017 and 2018.

And then when it comes to basketball we have the #1 player in the class of 2019 with James Wiseman.

That's pretty amazing. Now if only UT could capitalize on all that homegrown talent.

Not worried about capitalizing on it in football, hell even Butch was doing it this year. Whoever UTs new coach is, will probably clean up in the state, especially if it's Kelly, Frost, Patterson or even Petrino.

Wiseman is the kind of kid, Pearl or Martin would have gotten for sure. Barnes, I'm not too sure about.

Has Barnes just mailed it in?

I was excited when we got him. Thought he would bring UT basketball back to prominence. But he's been very disappointing. Especially cause he can't get any players. You would think coaching KD would bring in more high profile players?

Idk. I thought Barnes was a better recruiter than coach, but since he's got here, I've been impressed by coaching and let down by his recruiting. Although, I'm happy with this incoming class

For a basketball to football comparison. Barnes is getting John Kelly and Cam Sutton types of 3 star players. So on paper his recruiting hasn't looked great from the rankings prospective, but he's got some really talented players.

He transferred to Memphis East and is part of Team Penny. UT is not on the radar here. We were until all the Memphis stuff came up. I don't know where Penny is pushing him too.

He's not pushing him anywhere...UT is still involved but it will be hard for UT/Vandy/Memphis to remain a serious option with every blue blood now involved.

Thanks, I missed that. I've been slacking on BB recruiting. I was really into FB recruiting and thought UT had put together a great class. Now, I'm afraid the FB class is going to be decimated in the next month or so. Hoping CRB can pull the big man from Serbia, tho.

it will be a stretch if we pull him from Gonzaga.

It seems wiseman will most likely go to Kansas or Kentucky .

Kansas has made some inroads to the Bluff City in recent years albeit transfers. Wonder if Penny has connections with Kansas? Not all is happy with Tubby with the recent abrupt departures last season for Memphis. I doubt UT has a shot now if Wiseman is in Memphis. That Memphis East team will be loaded this season.

We will see if these 3 star players compare to J.K. and Cam Sutton.

Do not get me wrong there are 4 and 5 star players that do not pan out too, but to still not have gotten one 5 star player is disappointing imo.

Well he’s not targeting 5* so he’s not gonna land them.

I want us to get more in that top 30-100 range. And I want to see him target some players and then go land them and not just get what’s left or fill up with transfers and spring signees. Looks like he’s stepped it up as of late and may have found a new route with these foreign players. Fingers crossed.
