No what? Hey, we're going to sign fallback guys if we don't get Stokes or Kent. No isn't good enough for an answer BTO! More explanation to your No please! No doesn't tell me anything. No for what reasons? Thanks!

They'll hold scholarships for next season.
Barnes won't sign guys just to add warm bodies.

No buddy, thanks.*

C'mone BTO. Playing the hard to get to talk game here now. Why not give me a reason why? We aren't going to get a single recruit for 2017 if we don't at least consider them which is what we are now doing.

We have so many allottated scholarships for 2017 anyhow @2. We only have one spot for 2018. Why not get what we can get if we can't get Stokes or Kent?

I mean those two players I mentioned above would be fine if we can't get anybody else to fill those couple of spots available. It's not good on a program that has spots available & can't get a single darn player to sign. :eek:hmy: They could hold scholarships but to me I don't think that's good for the media especially.

The 2018 offers are much higher rated. Why sign an unrated just to have a 2017 class. Still think we'll get Kent and Stokes though.

That's a good point about waiting til 2018 where there is a better chance at landing some solid talent. :good!: That's if we can't get Stokes & Kent but yes I do hope we still can get both Stokes & Kent.

Surely if 2017 scholarships are used just for warm bodies, they'd go to grad transfers. Or maybe let a walk-on use them for one year only.

Looks like we have a new guy with interest for 2017: Trip Day, Glenwood School, Power Forward

Only Vandy is the other school with interest but we've not offered yet. We're gonna have to go after lower tier players especially if Stokes & Kent don't commit to us.

Here is another possibility for 2017 if we can't get Stokes or Kent: Blake Williams, Cordova, Point Guard

No scholarship offer yet but we do have interest.

Really doubt we look to sign a PG with such a need in the post. Especially one as lightly recruited as Williams.

My your glowing attitude how things are going under Barnes sure has changed.

Any player over 6'8 that has other major porogram offers needs to be taken at this point and is far from a warm body. The program 120% can't afford to go another year without a big man.

No. I believe that it isn't the best strategy to use up a spot for 4 years when there is only a single 2018 spot currently available. Therefore, assuming Stokes and Kent don't sign, IMO it makes sense to roll those over to the 2018 class. If a warm body is needed then use them on grad transfers and if there aren't suitable candidates then reward a walk-on.

Who are these 6'8"+ with major program offers that are still out there? If they exist that would be a good use of a scholarship.

If recruits that are available in 2018 are far better than the 2017 leftovers then I'm agreeing with the earlier poster that it would be a good strategy to roll over unused scholarships to 2018 since there is only 1 currently available.

The funny, well really sad, part of this is that last year many were suggesting holding spots open for the 17 class because relationships just take time. This year its let's wait until 18 and next year it will be wait until 19. Unreal this staff has failed this miserably to this point in recruiting.

There are 3 spots in 2019, but only 1 in 2018. It's not a fail to start balancing out the classes.

It's not a glowing attitude. I understand the situation. Pearl, Tyndall, and Cuonzo created a blazing dumpster fire of a basketball program. It will take a few years to put it out. 4 and 5 stars that weren't toxic were highly unlikely to take a chance by signing with UT. I'm fine with taking these 7 freshman and make developing them the coach's priority. There's a good chance that they'll be here for 4 years and the great recruits can be added later. It will be better to get the players that don't think their **** stinks in here once the roster is full of team first, upper class-men that will correct those attitudes. I can't see Hubbs and Mostella putting a disruptive ass clown with a toxic attitude in their place. I can see these sophomores and freshman owning the team in a couple of years not putting up with it. So I'm not terribly bothered that Auburn and Mississippi State have more 4 and 5 stars on their rosters right now. Some of them are already not panning out and it's still very early.

I have to agree with your post TGO. I think rolling them over to 2018 in which we would have 3 spots for 2018 & 3 for 2019 if we don't sign a single person for 2017. That's not a bad idea at all because besides Stokes really there aren't much to choose from.

Kent is ok but he's not going to be anything great for sure. I agree to go for the rollover & get at least 4 spot to have & that's if we end up with Stokes. If not, we will have 5 spots from a better class to choose from. Great post BTO.

Now that's what I'm talking about. I know I was fussing earlier about not getting somebody for 2017 but what you & calban said makes more sense & is probably the best route for this basketball team. :good!:

You're off a year. There are two in 2017, one in 2018, and three in 2019. That can all change with red shirts, transfers, attrition, and the signing of JUCOs and graduates.

I was saying if we don't sign anybody for 2017 then it will be 3 total for 2018. That's what I meant even if it didn't sound that way! Thanks!

I didn't get the "5" in 2018. Maybe that's a typo.

Right now:
2017 (2) Hubbs/Evans
2018 (1) Mostella
2019 (3) Schofield/Alexander/Phillips

Without too many scholarships available for a couple of years, I've not been nearly as concerned with the recruiting as most are. Build up the program's foundation and mix in the highly rated guys in a year or two.

I know it's early but no way all six freshman stay at IT. Most likely two will leave

Did I type a "5"? I'll go back & fix that because it should have been a "3" instead. Thanks for pointing that out buddy. :good!:

There's actually 7 counting Turner. I wouldn't be surprised if they all stay... although I agree that it's unlikely. But if two take redshirts maybe they all stick around. Especially if it's an exciting brand of basketball.
