Recruiting Discussion

He seems pretty serious about it, not sure bold faced lying about that would be wise. I understand lies are told in recruiting, but IMO that one would be a little bit worse than your typical, "you're gonna compete for a starting spot" lie that's told.

If the kid is telling coaches he loves basketball and wants to play both and Butch tells him he can here, and once here he says sorry I lied, that likely doesn't end well IMO.
Not that black and white IMO

Once you get him here you leave it up to him but with serious strings attached.

"Your future in the nfl depends on you this offseason getting bigger stronger and faster. Playing hoops is going to set you back in Buiding the strength you need to be a top 10 pick in the NFL draft in 2 years. I strongly encourage you to think about how much $ you are throwing away to play a half of season of hoops"

Perhaps he still plays under such encouragement but I don't it with his special elite skill set in football

And he looks at Butch and says, are you saying I'm not the athlete Jimmy Graham is? I'm playing both coach, like I've told you for the last 3 years.

I think it will end up being more likely that he does play both but over his career he gravitates to one sport which is most likely football.

Regardless, he would be an awesome addition and he is likely going to be allowed to do both here because he is definitely good enough to do both.

It is extremely rare to find a player who does two sports for 3 plus years.

I agree on the timeframe part, I think it's likely he plays basketball at least 1 year and probably 2, doubt he gets to 3.

Being a 3rd round pick like him or even Ellington from a South Carolina as a 4th rounder proves you can do both for sure but the comeback for that thinking is extremely easy.

$$$$$$$

Lots and lots more $ for a kid drafted in the 1st round. By all accounts TH has that kind of football potential. The nfl is very short and getting that huge payday from the start is huge

Like Ziti said, I think he certainly plays year 1 basketball, after that maybe Butch has that conversation and Tee realizes the work that has to be put in to do both, but I would bet on him playing at least 1 season of basketball wherever he ends up.

Still no guarantee that 2 more months of workouts(ie not playing the 2nd half of the bball season) would equal more $$$ in the NFL for him tho.

And I think you might be underestimating kids confidence in their abilities. If he thinks he can do both he will at least give it a go. Imo

Oh yea I agree those few months aren't likely to make that big of a difference.
I am just saying football coaches will play that angle to keep him with them IMO

History tells us those wanting to play a second sport won't do it under jones.

Dobbs
McDowell
Perry

All haven't played the second sport they were reportedly planning to play.

Dobbs flirted this year but why not before now tells me jones won out with that thinking

I hope we find out on this one for sure

I'd be more curious to see if he could keep up with the progression of the other guards to see any substantial minutes. If he is only playing mop up time he might just say forget it himself. Who knows...?

Its pretty cool seeing our programs in a position to land this kind of talent tho.

Good points, but wasn't Perry going to until his injury, thought I recall that?

Not that black and white IMO

While I agree with you on Tee not being able to play both, I find this sentence very funny and full of irony. Because you see almost everything as "black and white". Especially when it comes to recruiting and rankings.

Rob Lewis just posted on vq that He is hearing Holt is likely heading to Providence. He was supposed to visit next week.

Maybe it's not Jones as much as it is just reality setting in.

For those interested, here's the 2017 target list...

Updated list, Thomas is a possible UOV this weekend, I would think the staff looks to add 2, at most 3 in the early signing period for 2017. Bolded are the guys I think they are either 1. Pursuing the hardest AND/OR 2. The guys they are in a good spot with early...

2017 Offer List:

#9 Ikechukwu Obiagu
#10 Hamidou Diallo
#15 Nick Richards
#22 MJ Walker
#56 Lindell Wigginton
#61 Rayshaun Hammonds
#69 Alex Reese
#70 Andre Rafus
#82 Victor Uyaelumno
#92 Tyler Polley
#128 Lavar Batts
#140 Ibrahim Doumbia
#141 Nicholas Claxton
#142 Zach Kent
#147 David Sloan
#179 Lance Thomas
#161 Wyatt Wilkes
#187 Isaiah Stokes
NR Victor Enoh

Main guys IMO: Obiagu, Walker, Rafus, Uyelumno, Polley, Doumbia, Thomas, Stokes and Enoh.

Mj Walker is the only guy under 6'8" on the list, pretty clear the priority for this class is some size and athleticism in the post.
No one is bolded so I'm kinda confused on who we are good with.

That was an old post, meant to edit that out, should've read like this...

I would assume he will not visit now. But I thought it said he was visiting providence this week and Tennessee next week.
