He reminds a bit of what most thought Blackwell could be, a point forward type. Reese is much more willing to go down low and mix it up though, and while he's not the worlds most athletic guy at 6'9" and with handles and his passing ability he is very crafty. No real shock at all to me that Vandy has been after him for awhile, he's they type of kid they seem to have often who you just scratch your head and throw the remote at the TV as he proceeds to kill your team.

Rob Lewis mentioned yesterday he thinks the staff looks for a grad transfer big with the McGhee scholarship, so I did some brief looking at possible connections there may possibly be. Texas has a big man named Shaquille Cleare, he's 6'9" 265lbs, he's currently listed as a RS Junior after transferring to Texas from Maryland and sitting out last season. So this will be his 4th year academically, making him a likely candidate to be a graduate this spring. With that said, it's entirely possibly he opts to stay at Texas, or doesn't even look Tennessee's way, but I thought it was worth mentioning given the connection he has to Barnes and this staff.

He's a former top 50 recruit who signed and played with Maryland, averaged about 13mpg 3&3 at Maryland, is averaging about 10mpg 3&3 at Texas this year. Conditioning is an issue for him, and has been for some time, but he's got some potential for sure. As a 5th year guy you could do a lot worse, especially considering our need for depth in the post and would also give us that scholarship back in '17. I'm not sure he's a difference maker, but I do think he's a guy that could give you 15-20mpg at the 5 and give you some depth there next season.

Gonna be interesting to watch Mostella over these next few games and heading into conference play. Obviously there's still time for him as he's only a sophomore but being passed up by a freshman and bringing in a guard heavy class could be bad news for him if he doesn't figure things out soon.

Absolutely, but so did McGhee. Have to think getting only 3 minutes, and that's with Hubbs out, and seeing the freshman get big minutes has to open his eyes a bit. For his sake I hope he figures it out, he has potential, just haven't seen it amount to much. The puzzling thing to me is the shot, I do wonder if he spends anytime in the gym on his own, because his shot has really fallen off the deep end.

Would it be such a bad thing if another scholarship opened up with the way these two freshman are playing. Sorry but they both are night and day to what Mostella brings to the table.

I think for Mostella to be productive he would need to be the focal point of the offense and Barnes would have to give him freedom to make plays. Unfortunately he won't be doing that in the SEC like I had hoped. I had the highest of hopes for him, I just don't think he's cut out for SEC, he never looks like he's going full speed, and looks confused a lot. Very hesitant in almost everything he does. I think Barnes tells him not to dribble lol, he had a couple open lanes he could have attacked but made risky passes instead.

I think adding Okonoboh would be a 3-4 game difference for next years team, at this point at at least.

SG: Shembari Phillips/ Kwe Parker/ Detrick Mostella
SF: Robert Hubbs/ Admiral Schofield/ Jalen Johnson
PF: Ray Kasongo/ John Fulkerson/ Grant Williams
C: Goodluck Okonoboh/ Kyle Alexander


I think that's a squad that could win ~20 games or so and possibly compete for a bubble spot in the dance.

Seniors: Hubbs

Juniors: Okonoboh/ Kasongo/ Mostella

Sophomores: Phillips/ Schofield/ Alexander

Freshman: Turner/ Fulkerson/ Williams/ Johnson/ Parker/ Bone

Well for being such a "star" and "ranking" guy I assumed you'd be thrilled to know he was a borderline 5*. Yes he is raw offensively, but he's one of the nations best shot blockers, and is a developed defender. This roster desperately lacks a rim protector and Okonoboh is exactly that, and is one of the best in the country at doing it.

I am a big star guy when it comes to recruiting high school kids......after they get to college then it doesn't matter what their previous ranking was. I was just asking why you thought he would make that big of a difference?

Looks like a legit defensive presence to me but no shot it's a 3-4 game difference. It would take a complete all around POTY type addition to add that many wins IMO. 1-2 at the most for a defensive only type guy

He can make a big difference if he plays great defense and is not just a shot blocker. If he was an above average rebounder and above average defensive player then I feel that UNLV would have used him more.
