He can make a big difference if he plays great defense and is not just a shot blocker. If he was an above average rebounder and above average defensive player then I feel that UNLV would have used him more.

Lord knows I think we are desperate for defense and rebounding I just don't think 1 even elite player in those 2 areas can be worth 3-4 wins.

Agreed on your point about UNLV

He's behind Stephen Zimmerman who is a projected top 10 draft pick, that's like saying Marcus Lee was garbage at UK because he was behind Towns and Stein. Just because he isn't starting over a projected NBA lottery pick doesn't automatically mean he's not a legitimate difference maker.

Our chances don't seem good though so somewhat of a moot point.

in his own game right now.

I think you hit it on the head right here. Heck I had an avi of his dunk(in a contest) over 2 7 fters for over a yr so I really like the kid and hope he can come around. But for him to have the ranking he did out of high school he had to play more off instinct and with confidence. He just can't seem to do that here. He looks like he is over thinking and tentative everytime he touches the ball.

Why wouldn't he do what McGhee did and save half a season of playing time if he sees the writing on the wall?

That window hasn't been closed yet. But TN has a pretty short bench right now. If he gets his butt in gear he could see a lot of playing time in Jan-March 2016. Hubbs might be slowed the rest of the season.

He isn't as sharp, that is for sure.

Mostella still has a RS year. McGhee doesn't.

I get that, but if he had his mind made up he was transferring why waste half a season, redshirt year doesn't change playing eligibility. He transfers now he's got 2 and a half years left to play, wait til after the season and he's only got 2 years.

My point was more that he hadn't decided as someone suggested, and I think tonight's game illustrates that, he had one of his better showings in awhile.

He's not going to get much done learning a new system in the middle of a season.

I asked if anybody remembered a player electing to leave TN's roster mid-season before. Crickets.

My comment about comparing the two has more to do with why McGhee moved on when he did. Not having a RS year to use during his transfer penalty year means that every day counts against his eligibility clock. Mostella has the benefit of knowing that if he decides to transfer, then his clock will pause for the one-year transfer penalty.

In other words, if both players stuck it out until the end of spring semester, Mostella gets a free year during his potential transfer while McGhee loses a year of eligibility during his. McGhee had a little more incentive to be proactive in his decision because every day counts against him. Mostella has the benefit of pausing his eligibility for a year if things eventually don't work out for him. He could afford to see if things develop for him in the spring in terms of an expanded role. McGhee couldn't afford to take that chance.

Mostella had one of his best games tonight, so maybe he rides that momentum into a bigger role with the team.

Not sure it's fair to call that one a transfer

More of a dismissal

Call it what you want. Tennessee called it a transfer. Donnie Tyndall called it a transfer.

Sophomore forward Dominic Woodson transferring from Tennessee

"Tennessee sophomore forward Dominic Woodson is no longer on the team and plans to transfer to another school, UT announced Friday evening.

“Dominic has informed me that he wants to transfer to a school where he can have a larger role on the basketball court,” UT coach Donnie Tyndall said in the release. “We appreciate Dom’s contributions and wish him well in his future endeavors.”

Fair enough. I knew what the official report said but the circumstances seemed differently

Where is he now?

Didn't he punch out and break a glass wall at Pratt before he "transferred"? If I were a family member of JM's I'd be pissed that Woodson's departure was being compared to McGhee's.
