Recruiting Discussion

Just going to throw this out there...Frank Kaminsky and John Fulkerson have very similar recruiting profiles.

***For the simple-minded bozos that are sure to interpret this as, "He said Fulkerson is the next Kaminsky", that's not what I said.***

And where have I said the scouts are wrong on Blackwell, I'm STILL waiting. You keep operating under the basis that I've said that, but I haven't, not sure why you don't get that.

You are saying we should take all the guys on our board over Blackwell.
Correct?

Scouts have him rated above ALL of them.

It's pretty simple you think they are wrong if you like the other players better.

Nothing wrong with thinking that except you act like your thinking against the grain/scouts is somehow better than others. That's comical

Fact is, in basketball you recruit to your system. Wisconsin does a great job doing that. Barnes obviously believes that Fulkerson is a better fit for his system than Blackwell.

Simple question, do you feel every top 100 player in the rankings would succeed equally at any school in America?

Fulkerson will be top 150. You obviously don't like the kid.

I ca see why people question him.....I have a hard time seeing high major prospect while watching his videos but I trust what Rick Barnes sees so far.... I am disappointed he has not won a big recruiting battle yet though.

I just think he's close enough that he ends up there or very near it. He's a solid player. Just has average athleticism so his film doesn't jump out at you

This really is the X factor in college basketball recruiting. In football they can take an athlete and mold him to a position. In basketball a coach has to have a little more foresight to see what type of player a 17 year old will develop into over the next 4 years and if that will fit into his system of basketball.

That's a great point and I would agree with you if Rick Barnes had been that kind of coach over the last 25 years. However his whole history has been loading up on 4 and 5 stars and turning them loose. Doesn't seem likely he's going to become a "system" coach who identifies sleepers and plugs them into that system at this late date. Maybe he will, but that would be quite a reinvention.

What was Isaiah Taylor ranked?

Every coach has some underrated guys who become players. I'm talking about the predominance of his roster. Rick Barnes rosters have been predominantly 4 and 5 stars from the early days. His first Fall recruiting class at Providence had four top 100 players. He's clearly not like Bo Ryan, whose rosters have predominantly been 3 stars who are molded into a system.

@AdamZagoria: Ed Smith says Thon Maker will take his SAT on Saturday and after that they can plan some visits. Mentioned Indiana, Iowa St, FSU, Tenn as calling, along with the home visits from ASU and Notre Dame.

Maker is a consensus 5* and top 10 player in the class of 2016, that's an interesting development, could Barnes use his Canadian connections and pull off a stunner?

If we land maker, I'll build a Rick Barnes statue, and burn my Donnie Tyndall poster, while streaking ky.

This could help, Kevin Durants analytics guy is training thon. Maybe Barnes has a connection there as well?

@HHhawksbball: Enjoyed hosting TN HC Rick Barnes, Asst. Coach Ogden, and MS State Asst. Coach Zeigler at @HHhawksbball workouts today.

Checking out the Canadians

Everyone except Ado, they told him to sit it out, they weren't interested.

can't imagine not even considering a top 100 player.....barnes as been very unimpressive so far, I was hoping for a bigger splash..........guess I will always be a little BP spoiled
