Recruiting Discussion

All I'm saying is I'm glad we got rid of martin. He's a good guy, average recruiter, and a horrible offensive coach.

Cuonzo's last signed class was at best average with only Cofer having impact. They had virtually nothing lined up with the 14-15 class according to people I respect.

His recruiting was not improving here but obviously improved with a new staff and a change of scenery after he left. The pool we are fishing in has been going down since BP left. Barnes's list is not much different which has been very surprising. We can get only one top 125 guy to even visit this year. That is weak.

What exactly happened with Ado and Braxton as for as their on the court play? What did they show early that caused them to be considered big names a year or two ago and what have they shown this summer that caused their rankings to drop? I have not seen either play.

From what I've seen about Blackwell is that freshman/sophomore year he's a guy who's 6'7" and has been playing basketball for a long time. His skill was very advance for a 15 year old and add in that he's 6'7" and he was dominating kids around his same age. As he has gotten older, and not gotten any taller or quicker, kids who have gotten bigger, faster and stronger now can compete with him much more regularly than when h was 15/16. Something scouts have said for about a year at least is that his jump shot and perimeter skills need improved, he's too small to be a 4, nor does he have a post game, but is too slow to guard the 3 or drive by other 3's on the offensive end. Therefore the development of a consistent jump shot outside of 15' is something people have been waiting for but he just hasn't produced it yet.

With Ado it's also similar in that scouts wanted to see an offensive game develop over the past 12-15 months and none has. When he burst on the scene he was a 6'10" athletic freak who was blocking everything, scouts admitted his ranking was largely based on potential, which he oozed. However similar to Blackwell he has just not really gotten any better, and that is entirely what his ranking was based on, was potential. If you look at his stats from HHCA they are not what you'd expect from a top 15 recruit nationally, I'm not even sure he averaged double digit points last season.

Thanks, that makes a lot of sense.

I believe there was connections for brown in cal before cuonzo, correct?
Nope. He just had a solid relationship with Cuonzo. Here's a quote and article explaining his decision:

His relationship with Cal coach Cuonzo Martin began when Brown was a freshman and Martin was coaching at Tennessee, and fellow prep star Ivan Rabb's decision to attend Cal also influenced his thinking.

Ps Dallas stop reaching.. Just look up the info before you post the questions that get you slammed. Just a piece of advice.

I tried. Nothing came up. It shouldn't get me slammed for asking questions, you ask questions, everybody ask questions, this is kinda what this board is for, even though some think it's here for snarky remarks and to be Asses.

Oh not trying to be an ass, trust me, trying to help you learn something maybe you aren't aware of.

All I'm saying and I see a lot from you, maybe try looking up the information elsewhere before asking here. I mean I found a lengthy article about Jaylen Brown by typing in quotes "Jaylen Brown" recruit and went to the News section of google. Every article written in the last year about Jaylen Brown and the word recruit would show up.

Aren't questions asked because you are looking for an answer? Imagine finding the answer without depending on another person's restated opinion. Thats all.

Ps. It sucks that online communication has no voice tone or body languages to influence communication back and forth. I bet I look like an ass on here lol.

It's not really hard to recruit to cal, he got a good class, let's see if he chokes again.

 another one of Dallas' gems, go ahead and add this one to the list. In the last 10 years prior to CCM's arrival Cal hasn't had one single top 25 class, yet he pulled a top 10 class in his first full class.

What's he accomplished out there besides disappointing their fans?

In year 1 he was just getting settled into the job. In year 2 he has hauled in a top 5 recruiting class and there is alot of national attention on his team about being in contention to make a deep run. Not saying we cannot do that but if you take the rosters alone I would take CCM's Cals team over ours everyday

that would tell me that the Tennessee job is really a crap job and CCM along with Bruce did amazing things with the program. CRB has big job to do
