I think we are going to see grant (our 4) and Alexander (our 5) better equipped to step outside and make the 3 next year. That will open up the lane better for Bone.

Bone will see his shooting % go up and that will mean Our 5 (alexander) will see his % go down.

If their rebounding numbers improve I agree, but Barnes will keep both down low until they show they’re willing to rebound the ball better.

No but his field goal percentage is boosted by his put backs. His % of shots as related to his put back baskets is such that it helps his fg %. Kyle doesn't shoot a lot.

Again, so no other non-5 plays a similar style? Varnado and Cauley-Stein come to mind as guys who in college weren’t post up offensive threats, doesn’t mean they weren’t 5’s though.

Both guys already handle the ball a great deal at the top of the key. If they made their man honor the 3 from that spot it opens up the lane for others. It doesn't change where the players get touches

Oh I agree, I’m just telling you how Barnes relays it to them...that’s why Grant stopped shooting 3’s this year, was told to worry about rebounding and being more effective down low first.

Go watch some of the games. I bet less than 5% of our low post offense went through Kyle.

That may be close to accurate, but it's an eternity away from suggesting Alexander posted up 10 times all season. And no one is claiming we ran our post offense thru KA.

That's been my point all along. This all started when I said we needed a true 5 on this team. Someone lambasted me and said we had one in Kyle. I love Kyle but he's not a five. He doesn't play the five very much on offense. Most of our low post plays go through Grant. Sometimes we post up admiral when we have a matchup. I maintain that having a true, big bodied post presence would benefit this team and in particular Grant. Grant typically draws the opponents best post defenders.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if I am reading you correctly, what you want is a true SCORING, back to the basket type 5, a dying breed. Whoever corrected you isn't wrong necessarily by saying that we do have a true 5 man. He just isn't the scoring threat in the paint that you prefer, and your actual desire wasn't conveyed in your message by simply saying, "We don't have a true 5."

We haven't had what you seem to be looking for since maybe Steve Hamer.

Don't let him fool you. He's softening his post after being bombarded with criticism. He said Alexander was a 3 when all this started. He just has a hard time understanding basketball and that's ok

Lol. They are wrong. The five is a post up back to the basket player. They don't have to be 7 footers. About every team in the SEC has them. So what you're saying is that we should resign ourselves to little to no low post scoring from the five?

Everyone is wrong but this guy.

Where are we going with our 2 spots for 2018 class? All I hear about is this guy in the 19 class that guy in the 20 class. I know we have looked at a couple grad transfers or whatever but I have not seen one story in several weeks that barnes and company are looking at this guy for 18, I hope he has a plan.

Whatever happens will happen exactly how Rick Barnes planned it.

They have brought in Khwan Fore a graduate transfer from Richmond on an official visit and right now it seems at PG he is their preference for 2018 class. He is having to decide if coming to Tennessee in a reserve role on a Top 15 team is what he wants, or if going to a ETSU/UAB and getting 30mpg but maybe no NCAAT trip is what he wants. Vols seem willing to wait on his decision, which I would expect sometime soon, if he goes elsewhere I would expect them to continue to explore grad transfer PG market.

As for the other spot, all signs point to Rivals Top 100 big man reclassifying into 2018 and joining the Volunteers. Now some people are going to say Barnes had no plan and this is him grasping at straws, but Barnes and staff have been recruiting Burns for 2+ years, I would say it’s pretty likely they knew all along him reclassifying was a possibility.
