Recruiting Discussion

I doubt that they'll relax. Barnes doesn't plan on every commit also signing. They should redirect their efforts somewhat though... just not count on the commits absolutely signing until it happens. Which is when? November? Oliver and/or Lanier could get other jobs which could upset the status of our commit(s).

You definitely don’t view a commit nearly as much as you do a recruit during AAU evaluation periods, and players get that...it’s post AAU when coaches can attend high school games, home visit etc. that you need to continue to pay them attention.

I heard Barnes fussing a bit about it on the radio. Something like being disappointed that commits don't mean much... but pointing out that he honors his end of the deal. Not quite Cuonzo's old stance while at UT that he'd give up on a player that had committed, but not signed, with a different team.

I don’t recall Barnes having any de-commits at Tennessee?

I know BTO mentioned him, but Jeff Goodman tweeted we have reached out to Koby McEwen from Utah State. Along with Michigan, Marquette, Creighton, Ohio State, Oregon, Arizona State and some others.

Getting dj burns would be huge. I want to have him on so bad. Same with uros. I’m sold on him. Put the press on.

6'10"

As was Kevin Nash. Brandon Crump too. Major Wingate and Marcus Haislip were listed as 6'10".

Brian Williams was 6'10" or 6'11.

Rupert Breedlove was 7'0" and Greg Longshore was 6'10", but apparently did not log varsity minutes.

When Kevin Nash uses the jackknife powerbomb, he's like 9 feet tall

Hoping he commits soon, would be nice to head into the AAU open periods with 2 2019 commits and give the staff a very clear picture of who they should be pursuing.

Love that quote, "the 6'9 post player is impossible to defend on the block with his big, strong body, great footwork and soft touch". Sounds like a 6'9 Grant Williams with a better mid-range game and a future NBA power forward. Gaines and Burns could lead to a top 20 class in 2019. I still would love to get a visit from the Cali PG, Akinjo, this class, tho. Akinjo, Gaines and Burns, alone would definitely be a nice recruiting foundation for the next 2 years

Lew wouldn't be a bad addition to the current roster.

Actually he would be a wasted scholarship. A few rebounds a game isnt that valuable. We need a 6"10 post that can score 10 to 15 every night. And can block shots. Grant cant do it by himself. Admiral is a great wing player but not a true post player. If we had that one dominate inside player to go with Grant then i feel this team takes the next step. Guard play will be much better next year. And yes thats just a gut feeling also. Hoping they mature over the offseason.

How soon we forget. Lew was a huge player here. May not have had huge numbers, but he was great leader.
