*As the main source for our top prospects*

Remember those first two canadians who signed with Barnes' first class? That's going real well for him lol.

Inb4 Pons is a savior

Alexander is a starter. It's not Barnes' fault that Kasongo is a delusional nomad. And yes, Pons is a high quality signee.

Bbbbut international prospects can't be relied on each year

Can't whiff in the fall and hope one shows up in late November every year.*

Seriously, do you ever not twist words?

Also, I love how one assistant coach going to a fiba tourney is something to brag about now. Biggest thing to happen for this program since that 3* recruit got all those high majors offers before committing to creighton. Score!

Nobody said fill your roster with 10 international players, but acting as though you can't find 1-2 a year is pretty damn foolish.

Pons didn't show up in November, much like right now the staff was aware of him last summer, try keeping up and maybe you wouldn't have such a distorted view of things.

You're essentially saying if Tennessee doesn't sign anyone in the fall this season and signs an international prospect in the spring that it was a fallback option and another fail...you'll completely dismiss the fact that staff is over seas this summer scouting and building relationships with those guys.

Find me one mention of Pons from last summer.

Pons visited Tennessee from France in December yet popped up on Tennessee's radar for the first time in late November, sounds plausible

Didn't think you could do it. Thanks.

Desmond Oliver is recruiting though! Ian Steere committed to creighton but not before getting some high major offers! We are smoking hot on the trail right now!

If it's not in the media then it can't be true...seems like quite the rationale

So if I post something saying someone on staff was aware of Pons and reached out last summer you're going to retract your comments about him just talking in their lap? Didn't think so.

Pons popped up on Barnes' radar during the Fiba U17 tournament of 2016. July 2016. Schwartz stayed hot on the trail until he was signed.

Pons got Tennessee’s attention after showing off his eye-popping explosiveness in the 2016 International Basketball Federation U17 World Championships in Spain.

“His name started to emerge from that tournament,” Schwartz said. “Talking to different people over there, he was potentially someone that was interested in coming to the United States to play college basketball.”

Fwiw those games started in late June, so apologies Ziti, it was actually late June he popped on their radar, not the July I originally mentioned.

I will wait for your highly anticipated response, can't wait.

Recruiting isn't critical until 3 cycles from now. 1 this year and 2 next is nothing to worry about. Replacing the rising sophomores in 2020 will be huge. Hopeful lay 1 or 2 of those can be JUCOs or grad transfers.

Player development and retention of the best ones should be the highest priority right now. Recruiting high school sophomores shouldn't be at the top of the To Do List just yet. Win and they will come. Get to the NCAAT and they will come.

Article is from 3 months ago. We weren't in on this kid til late 2016. Anyone can watch fiba games. We whiffed in the fall and luckily we're able to get in with a kid who didn't want a high profile recruitment. Hats off to Barnes for landing him.

Whiffing in the fall isn't executing a plan.

I have no issues at all with the last recruiting cycle that got us Pons, Walker, Kent, Darrington, and Daniel. Immediate upgrade at the PG, the leading scorer in the country 2 years ago at the 2, a high energy physical player in Walker, a great athlete in Pons, and a guy just short of 7' that has a high basketball IQ and skills. We'll be in real good shape if we get groups like that every year.

The recruiting critics are relentless, but it's really not even close to a disaster (although the program WAS a dumpster fire).

1st class which was VERY late in the cycle:
Alexander, Kasongo, Turner, Schofield, Phillips

2nd class:
Bone, Bowden, Fulkerson, Williams, Parker, Evans, Johnson

3rd class:
Pons, Walker, Kent, Darrington, Daniel

Like I said from the start, Pons didn't pop up on their radar in late November as you keep trying to say...staff was aware of him and recruiting him in June. I'm sorry that doesn't fit the narrative you want to push but that is the truth of the situation.

The previous class of Punter, Baulkman, Tariq Owens, Jabari McGhee, Willie Carmichael, and Detrick Mostella went 0-4 having the 4 year players lasting all 4 years.

The year before that: Robert Hubbs and Darius Thompson. Davis too I think.

Before that: Reese, Edwards.

Before that: Yemi, Stokes, Richardson, Lopez, Chievous

Other than Stokes and Richardson (3-star) TN hasn't been hitting home runs on the recruiting trail for a long time. But Cuonzo and Donnie gave Basilio interviews and Barnes has nothing to do with him. I wonder why Basilio constantly attacks CRB?
