Reality of Our Situation

It is about a 7-5 team with wins against bad teams and includes losses against Georgia State and BYU.
we were 5-7 last year and bottom dwellers of the SEC east. No one has claimed we won some kind of championship. Lighten up Francis

I think we beat BYU and Ga state with Bituli in the mix. Does one player make a difference? Ask Nick Saban. We would be 9-3. Yes we played some weaklings, but so did the mighty crimson tide. To say we are elite is foolish. This time last year, the team had quit. That’s not happening now.

Maybe it is just that I am a realist or maybe even a Debbie Downer. However, I have read many posts over the past couple of weeks that seem to have me feeling we are elite again.

The reality of our situation is this:

We are 7-5; not 10-2 or even 9-3 but a seven win team. Those seven wins are against very bad teams with one of those teams (UAB) not having a single impressive win. On top of that, we got beat by Ga State and BYU!

On getting beat by BYU and Ga State as well as who we actually beat, we do not have a coach of the year coach! We, Tennessee fans, are very fond of two of our receivers this year. However, neither are going to win any awards or go in the first round or even the second of the NFL draft!

We had a record setting RB tonight. He set the record against a typical Vandy team with a losing record! In fact, the previous record was set against a Georgia team.

When we have break out, record setting performances against teams who are ranked and we win those games, then COY honors and All-American statuses can be proclaimed.

On to maintaining the Butch standard in beating lesser quality teams at the end of the season and then beating some over ranked Iowa, Nebraska or whichever the over ranked bowl opponent we have!
You seem like you expected us to go from losing to winning all of them overnight. You obviously cannot see improvement as the season went forward. I don't see anybody saying we are elite yet, not many elites out there. We improved, we blew a few early games and many folks predicted us to lose to Miss St, South Carolina and Missouri. Many said before the season that them teams were simply better, well we beat them. We beat all the SEC teams that we were supposed to beat, well at least the ones I thought we would beat. I expect continued improvement as we head into next year. Continue on with you totally negative slant and everything about the season. GBO!

I didn’t expect us to lose to GaState and BYU!

And, I didn’t know USEe, Mizzo and Ky were going to be so bad! I really didn’t know how Vandy was going to be either.

Everybody is acting like we went 9-3 while beating some good teams.. We went 7-5 beating bad teams and losing to Ga State and BYU.

No we aren't elite, but this is undeniable, Tennessee is a much better "team," not perfect, but a better team. Which is what Pruitt tried to say but Cole cubelic shot him down after the Missouri game. This Tennessee team has won every close game they've been in coming down the stretch! The tennessee team from a year ago, two years ago, would have lost every one of them! They believe in each other, they trust the system they are playing in, and the results speak for themselves. Are we "back"? no, but we are much better, and I am thankful!

So you don’t enjoy winning? Maybe a new trip to the shrink couch is needed!

I enjoy winning. Just not losing and not losing to Ga State and BYU and not chest bumping about wins against the lower rung teams!

Reality is after BYU many jumped on the idea this team wouldnt win a conference game and or finish with the worst record in program history. Some of those were very adimate. 5 SEC wins later that is being rationalized with the idea they didnt beat anyone.

Reality is, Pruitt is not COY after a 7-5 year, or "the guy" yet. But he's also not the dud many were sure he was a couple months ago.

Go away you troll

We have people talking about us again. Yesterday they mentioned the UGA probably misses Chaney indicated by the poorer play of their QB play relative to the previous two years, and also said that Pruitt was definitely missed by Bama. Their defense is not what it was when he was there. It seem that we have the coaches we need for future success.

All three are so bad they're bowl eligible per their records, Mizzou can't go for violations. Who knew?

You realize we only played 2 teams this year who don't have a Bowl Eligible record?

Of our 7 wins, 5 came vs teams who are .500 or better.

Of our 5 losses, every one of them came vs teams who are going bowling and 3 came vs teams who are currently ranked no worse than 11th.

Low football IQ poster has a low football IQ.

DUH, it's the eye test. I can see improvement on the field. Most folks can, even the sports analyist on TV see it. Many folks didn't have us beating Miss St, South Carolina or Missouri before the season. That's why most folks said 7-5. We started off terrible lost 2 we shouldn't have, that does not mean that's who we are now. We have improved and we are getting better, we still have a ways to go but we are headed in the right direction. We were picked 5th in the east and came in 3rd, so for many we did beat some conference opponents that were presumed better. If you can't see it, sorry about that. GBO!!!!

Would 9-3 really have changed your perception? I mean you basically said that beating SC/KY/Mizz/Vandy mean nothing. So if we had beat GA ST and BYU what would that have really proved?

Yeah you are being a downer.
Those 2 games at the beginning of the season were flukes. We should be a 9 win team this season. It is what it is-if if's and buts were candy and nuts we'd all have a Merry Christmas.
But what I see is the natural order of things reestablishing in the SEC East. GA lost Chaney, Bama lost Pruitt obviously, their loss our gain. SC, Mizzu, Vandy all back down to the bottom. We are rising and we are rising fast. We are returning our whole O line, have depth across the board really. We just need to land some stud D linemen and continue to stock the shelves. We have kick azz Freshman all over the field, O line, LB, RB. Pruitt knows what he is doing.

If you’ve been feeling “that we are elite again”, then that’s 100% on you chief. We’re much improved and heading, slowly but surely, in the right direction. But we’re a couple light years from being “elite”.

I think that was his point.

One of those two early season losses as a fluke. Such as USCe beating Georgia. But two losses, that’s not two flukes.

BYU should have been a W. So I call it a fluke and not a clear representation of our team. JG should have done better. I held JG responsible for those games primarily. I said bench him after GA state. They didn't. Benching him is what gave him a wake up call. It isn't all on him. GA state def a fluke. I'm glad he turning it around, but it was all mental with him, not physical, a fluke!

The not quitting is the biggest difference that I see.
