I am not attempting to rationalize the teams peformance BUT... (1) Had the situation gone differently at LSU, we would have had a 7th win last season. That was not Dooley's fault. The ref's or the D Coordinator, maybe, but not Dooley's.
(2) Had the situation gone differently in the bowl game, we would have had our 8th win for the season. That was clearly the ref's fault, not Dooleys' fault.
(3) Had Lather's, Jantzen, Bray & Hunter's situations
been different, we would have beaten UGA, USC and possibly Florida. Our record would now be 5 wins or 6 wins with a Florida victory.
(4) Had Dooley made some bone headed calls or had some poor game planning or had he been out coached, then I would tend to say that he is part to blame. As it is though, I can't say that he is to blame.
If, had, if, had, if, had, if, had, if, had....
Starting to notice a trend from not only Dooley himself, but also the ones who have already begun the blueprints for his statue outside Neyland. We heard all of these "ifs" last year in regards to LSU and NC, and hearing them again this year. Eventually, those have to stop.
I like CDD and hope he is here his entire career, but damn, getting tired of hearing all of that. If Bray didn't get hurt....how about you work on a running game so he doesn't have to throw it 60 times a game! There is no excuse that a future NFL quarterback takes snaps with supposedly 2 NFL WR's, and we can't get to the LOS. That's BS.
The W's and L's will be important next year, but what I think is more important is that we have to see something. He's going to return a lot of starters, a lot. Does the O-Line quit being pansies and hit someone? Can the D-Line get to the QB? Can the secondary lock down receivers? CAN WE PUNT THE BALL MORE THAN 30 YARDS?
Yes, I want to see wins, but more importantly I want to see improvement. If there is no improvement, again, it's time to look elsewhere because that is a fundamental issue.
