Losses to UGA and Bama. Win against North Texas. Probable wins against Vandy and USCjr. Flip a coin against Jizzou and uKY games, both are on the road and probable losses at this point.
Best case scenario is 6-6, worst is 4-8.
I think the team, the staff, and whatever was left of the fanbase after last week checked out tonight. Apathy reigns. ***John Ward voice***
Butch and Dave have a pow wow after the season ends where Dave tells him to make changes to the staff. Debord, Azzanni, and Mahoney are let go shortly thereafter.
Honestly I think we might limp our way to 6-6. Thats a huge step backwards IMO, but it is what it is. We absolutely need a new OL coach, OC and DC. Butch is going to have to clean house regardless of what happens from here on out. With our stable of coaches, I highly doubt we ever see more than 8 wins.
When you evaluate the team, coaches, and programs honestly, it seems like we're doing about 90% of things right. Our D has had a few lapses this year, but ultimately, I think our offense remains the source of our woes.
The offense was stuck in "park" in the 2nd half against Oklahoma. We played better against Florida, but we still had to rely significantly on trick plays and simply overpowering the other team to move the ball. This game, once again, the offense just stalled out in the 2nd half, leaving the defense on the field most of the time. When you run HUNH and you go 3-and-out constantly, you're putting a ton of pressure on your defense; which is why I view the defensive lapses as being more excusable than the offensive issues.
It's not that I dislike Debord, so much as I feel like he might've been the wrong hire. It seems like Butch needs an innovator that will challenge him as OC. Debord is a good OC, but I'm not sure he's what we need.
Mahoney gets a bad rap, but he had the toughest job coming in, and the O-line has been improving every week. I think he's the coach that VN is angry with, that doesn't deserve all the hell he's getting.
Yet, even as pass blocking has improved, our passing game has still looked miserable. The problem seems to be part Dobbs and part the receivers. Dobbs is off-target a considerable amount of the time and we have a few WRs that seem to drop a lot of passes.
I'm not sure of the solution. This isn't like it was with Dooley where the entire program was falling apart under his watch. It's just consistent problems with the passing game. That has been our issue for 3 years now.
I don't care if it's not extremely realistic but you have to call Peyton and see if he was serious about coaching QB's at UT. I mean, Peyton looks like this could be his last year especially with Kubiak taking a lot of the offensive control away from him. The timing could be more right. All I'm asking is to make the call, ask and put a feeler out there.
Too much just to ask???

I think your on to something. I understand fans had high expectations for the season, but to be honest these expectations were too high. I think all the smart people knew this should be a 7 or 8 win season. The biggest problem for UT was how well they played in the first half of the Oklahoma game. If UT stayed behind by two touchdowns it would have been easier to stomach the loss.
The loss vs Arkansas was a product of two heartbreaking losses. You can tell this team is mentally exhausted. They need a refresh and a reason for excitement.
I'm not sure what the solution is but it is time to try something new. Maybe give Dormady a try, or make changes to the offensive scheme.
IMO 6-6 is worst case and 8-4 is best. Give this team and coach a chance. Think about the heartbreak of Kiffin leaving or the Dooley years when there was no talent. At least if Butch gets another year or two he will leave the program better than he found it. Something UT hasn't seen in many years.
Obviously, CBJ isn't going anywhere for two or three years. The current financial situation will not allow it.
But, we could see some changes at coordinator positions and/or position coaches.
I doubt DeBord goes anywhere considering he just signed a contract.
Jancek? Martinez? Mahoney?
Are these guys safe? I believe after this season (5-7 or 6-6 realistically) Jones is going to be forced to make changes.
On to our opponents. Georgia and Alabama are going to beat us most likely. That sets us up with 5 losses. We should beat everyone else. Mizzou, UK, Vandy, NT, and South Carolina but we'll probably drop one.
6-6 will definitely be underachieving, but it will show whether or not the team is going to quit or come back to work each week.
Where do we go from here?
And yes, I'll be in Neyland every Saturday that there is a game. I've put up with the past 8 years and the 3 losses this year, so I'm not going anywhere.
