No, what happened was UCLA is alot better of an opponent. Kiffin thought he would keep the majority of the playbook hidden AGAIN against UCLA and it came back and bit him in the rear. They came to play and it backfired.

No, Crompton just went back to business as usual; gameplanning, playcalling, or just trying to play it close to the vest and not show anything for Florida had absolutely nothing to do with it.

Been a Vol for my whole life and yesterday was my first in Neyland ever. I loved every minute of it....Tailgated, went to the Vol Walk. Took it all in. Just lacking one thing....A WIN! I still enjoyed myself greatly. I sat in the nosebleeds, but could see the entire field and every player on it. Had UCLA fans sitting behind me. Let's just say UCLA fans said we are a quarterback away from being a great team. While I am not blaming it entirely on JC, there were many times he missed open receivers by not seeing them, overthrowing them, or throwing behind them. I expect more from him being a senior, supposedly a leader on the team. People question the play calling. We didnt run enough last year, we ran too much this year. Well, neither year the pass worked! I don't blame CLK for running the rock. The line was terrible, and our qb was terribly inaccurate. Defense was excellent. To continually play with our backs to the wall and only give up field goals to the nations best place kicker is outstanding. JC looked as though he was shook the entire game. There were times when UCLA put 8 or 9 in the box and we couldn't run or pass. Shout out to Montario for a great game because he held on to the ball and ran tough. I feel strongly we could have hit them with a couple screens and scored. But we will never know. Despite the L, UCLA knows they have been to Rocky Top. We hit em hard! We need to open up the O Line and QB positions in practice this week. Despite the L, couldn't have seen a better game........Hard hitting, down to the wire. Go Vols.....beat those Gators.

Thats your opinion, i have mine.

I promise you that Kiffin was not holding back. He probably has a few "trick" plays that he didn't bring out, but I think he knows the limitations of his QB situation. He wants wins. The lack of creativity/diversity in playcalling was b/c of horrific QB play ... not Kiffin's desire to keep things secret from Florida.

I agree..I think that UCLA is better than advertised...sure we are a contender yet....crompton is only as good as his offensive line play....lets relax and try to stay within 30:crazy:
I agree crompton is only as good as his line but how many other QB's in the nation can make something happen with their feet or something. All a defense has to do is hurry crompton and he will break down....

I hate to break it to you guys, but they are not holding a whole lot of plays back that they are going to whip out for Florida. Kiffin has a much deeper playbook, but they can't run much of the playbook with this quarterback. He has stated numerous times he has to protect his quarterback with playcalling, i.e simple plays, runs, short passes and I don't think that will change. Last year Fulmer had to simplify the playbook as much as possible to try and get it going, and they still were not able to find something Crompton or Stephens could run.....

Well, with how well the defense played after all of those turnovers, shouldnt he have showed a couple of those "tricks"??? Even with all of those turnovers we were still in the game til the end and a couple of those plays would have given us a better chance to win the game than what we used. Thats the way i look at it.

Trick plays have a much higher likelihood of failure, difficulty, and possible turnover. So, if you're not able to run vanilla offensive schemes, why on earth would you want to run something tricky and out of the ordinary? Crompton looked like a deer in the headlights on a simple pass over the middle. You don't increase the difficulty of the offense when you have a day like yesterday.

ok....failure...check, difficulty...check, turnovers....check, all described cromptons play saturday. How worse could it have been, seriously? On another note, we have plays that involve Nuke and Berry taking snaps, correct?? We didnt even have to use Crompton with those tricks.

Exactly... and Kiffin got even more conservative after Crompton's third pick. I agree possibly with the Nuke or Berry packages though. But, nothing difficult should've been done with Crompton, and it wasn't after his third pick. We ran until we couldn't run anymore and nearly won the game that way.

Tricks such as reverses, double reverses, etc. won't work when UCLA has 9 guys lined up in the box to shut down the run on every play(the only thing that we could do without turnovers). They were prepared to stop every run play and make us beat them through the air, and I have a feeling Florida will do the same. That being said, Go Vols. Kick some @$$
