Helton is just as good from an offensive philosophy as Brohm.

Pruitt was the best DC in CFB.

I like who we have

Whatever. Kiffin didn't blow my skirt up, but, I thought, "Hey, fans that know a lot more than me are excited", so, I followed them over the cliff. Plus, Layla. Aaargggghhhh...
Then, Dooley. Again, I had to ignore my uneducated gut and follow the crowd. Then, Butch. I was fooled my his exit speech to his former team and his crewcut. I accept responsibility for supporting Butch. But, I'm the kind of guy that, once I pull into a lane, I stay there until I see a Stuckeys. I think Jeremy Pruitt is my Stuckey's. And no jokes about the pecan log. I aint going there...ah'ight?!?!

(Sorry. I had a tough day at work)

I would’ve been very happy with Brohm he was my second choice after Chris Peterson. Pruitt will implode at UT on and off the field. He will not handle the pressure as a first year head coach at the pressure cooker in Knoxville. At least Brohm has HC experience. I would’ve gone with Mike Bobo over Pruitt disappointed we didn’t give him serious consideration.

Gimmie a break!!! How much more do you need to know, DC at Bama, GA, and FSU. Did awesome at all three. I know it's high school, but ask anyone from Hover,AL. High school football IS life down there. If you suck you gone or dead, whichever comes first! We don't know if CJP will be a good head coach but NO WAY he folds under the preasure!!!

Depends on who you ask. I think 80-90 percent of Vol fans would take that, give the past 10 years. In fact there will be multitudes bemoaning the fact that Phil and Davenport nixed the Leach hire after we start 2-6 next season. Book it!

Leach would have been GREAT in the SEC. don’t you think Leach’s offense would have given the SEC defenses ulcers? Would have been fun to watch and his press conferences are legendary.

Brohm is a STAR. As mentioned, 7-6, but at PURDUE, team worse than the Duke teams that Spurrier had. In his 1st year, took Purdue, the mat of the NCAA, to 7 wins. Proved what he could do offensively at WKU and how quickly he’s could turn around a program. Some mention recruiting, he doesn’t need the 5 stars, did I mention he WON at Purdue? Best x and o coach that was in the search. Big names will call him, Tn missed an opportunity here imo. Will be on the list of every opening next fall.

Either of these two would have been solid to home run hires. Schiano is a great recruiter (better #s than Pruitt) but would have been recruited against but no more than what fans did against him. He will land a HC gig next year somewhere.

Pruitt is a solid hire. Both high ceiling and low floor.

I am so glad that at least one member on VN can tell the rest of us exactly what is going to happen with CJP and his time here. No need to watch the next few years unfold.

What’s wrong with a good pecan log? That’s not why everyone goes to Cracker Barrel? :dunno:

In certain situations down there if you don't suck "you gone or dead."

Anyone and everyone sounded good after the Schiano fisco...well almost everyone except that NC State and the guy Arkansas hired...those two were too far and would have been Dooley 2.0..

Pretty sure our Defense would have been awful under Leach. I would be curious to see if his offense would have worked week in week out in the SEC. Bama, GA, FL would have went through it s like hot knife through butter be and the DL and LBs would have sacked our QBs to death. Pretty sure Leach's record at Texas Tech vs. OU, Nebraska, and TX was less than stellar. That said he would have most definitely recruited better at TN than any of his jobs. I think he win 8-9 per year...max.

Kicked the pants off of an Ohio team that UT struggled with under year 4 with Butch Jones. Yes, they played a year apart, but still. Kicked their pants off.

Would have been a solid hire.

Agree, would have been a great hire. So what happened, the article doesn’t say. Did Brohm just decide to stay at Purdue or was Fulmer behind the scenes blocking this one too?

I know many are happy with Pruitt, but when you’re inches away from a Brohm or a Leach, yet you end up with a Coordinator, it doesn’t add up.

His family loves it here, I know that.

He makes quite a bit to coach here, when you compare salary vs expectations. He would have probably needed a LOT more compensation to move and take on the very high expectations down at UT, and I doubt UT would have given it to him at this point in time.

I plan on asking him what happened next time I see him, but I likely won't let it out on here because it's not my place. When he wants it to be public, it'll be public.

The Pruitt implosion will begin when his temper starts flaring with the media and fans, after the losses pile up. Too many of the Saban disciples try and incorporate his terse, curt, blunt style with the media, but they’re all missing the championship gravitas that enables that style. So they end up just looking like hot-headed jerks. Muschamp at Florida is a perfect example. McElwain was a Saban desciple and often times came across as a real jerk, overly secretive and always wanting an “us against the world” scenario, even with his own fans and administration. Kirby Smart has a lot of this. His first year at UGA had some really tense and questionable moments with the media, where it looked like Kirby was cracking. The great season last year earned him a pass for now. Jimbo Fisher May be the most Saban-like. He won a championship but look how that relationship ended; messy, entangled and very bitter.

My point is, this style wears out quickly, especially if you aren’t winning at a very high level. I have no idea how Pruitt will fare, he may be at UT a decade-plus and win multiple SEC titles. But I can certainly see him flaming out in 3 years with a 17-19 record and all sorts of blow-ups at the media.
