Rattler's ability to run the ball a problem?

We only had one sack and he only had 16 yards rushing (I assume that’s minus the sack).

His ability to slip out of the pocket and throw on the run was what killed us. He had some success against UGA doing the same thing a couple of weeks ago but UGA was collapsing the pocket with a 3 man rush in the second half and was shutting them down by the 3rd and 4th quarter. Don’t see our defense being as successful. IMO we’ll have to get a turnover or 2 to pull away in this game even if our offense plays well.

I think his ability to get the ball downfield consistently is a problem. Hopefully our D-line gets to him more often than not.

I’ve never seen a defense that didn’t make mistakes. Once again, you’re basing this on 2 bad quarters. Other than that they’ve given up 14 or less.
You’re right, especially in college.

I am basing this on 4 complete games.

I think that you and I can agree that the defense, although fast and good at flying to the ball, has some deficiencies and needs to improve, and that the schedule is going to only get harder. You are optimistic that they will improve as the season progresses, and I think if they haven’t got it by now, they won’t.

I'm slightly more concerned that the Vols cut down on the 453 yards passing and 6 TDs they gave up to Rattler.

If they can manage to force him to run a bunch, I'd consider it a win.

Most defenses his running ability wouldnt be a problem. But with a Tim Banks defense it will be. We are gonna make him look like a heisman front runner

As long as the defense doesnt purposely throw the game like last year, Rattler shouldnt be an issue.

They seem unprepared for their opponents on defense. I don’t believe they are able to spend much time on tendencies because most, especially in the secondary, are not capable. They don’t even have the instincts to know when the ball is in the air and turn around to make a play. They not only looked confused, but they failed to cover when Florida went in motion. Simple motion. If you start trying to spy, I’m almost certain that someone will get confused and leave open receivers. You don’t have to like it or agree, just my thoughts on what I have seen.
There is an interesting theory (for lack of a better word) on why triple option teams had a hard time preparing for pro style teams even though their offense chewed up a lot of clock. I guess the same theory may be partially true with any team that runs a somewhat unconventional offense. So, if you recruit players to run an exaggerated spread O, spend your time teaching your O players that O and practice that O all off season, then it may be difficult for your scout team to replicate a more traditional O which means it's tougher to prepare your defense. Throw in the amount of time the D spends on the field giving the opposing OC more cracks at finding a weakness...

I think of it we’re just him running last year, it would have been ok. The problem is he picked us apart in the air too. Let him run as long as you don’t let him have time to pick apart the second day. I like the chances of containing him on the ground as ai trust our slime and linebackers more than I trust our secondary.

This, absolutely. I trust our slime and linebackers way more than I trust our secondary.

Not so bold. We’re 4 games in and had a conference opponent. You think they are hiding something or holding back? They weren’t ready for Florida’s motion, even though they ran the same stuff against Utah. They struggled against APSU’s screen game and quick hitters, which is their game. These guys can’t tackle, let alone prep something special for a mobile quarterback. If you try and put a spy on him I can almost guarantee that someone will be wide open.

It’s the Jimmy’s and Joe’s.
Teams do get better, players get better things come together. GBO

Bump. Once again, ignorant to make such strong statements about our defense so early in the season

Are you a young person or something? I don't know why you are so hell bent on calling me ignorant. There is nothing ignorant about what I posted, and nothing has changed as far as the players are concerned. What I saw was the coaching staff making better decisions on both sides of the ball. Banks did not blitz nearly as much as he has been and contained Rattler with 4, nothing special, no spy, no advanced tactics.

A win is a win, be happy, and leave me alone.

Dude, you’re like a woman. Stop. You clearly don’t understand my point. This team is 5-1, being carried by the defensive front 7 and the running game, SINCE GAME ONE. QB play, WR play, and the secondary have not improved through 7 weeks. They are still suspect. The INT’s have been absolutely horrendous passes, not spectacular coverage.

This is this team.
