A little disappointed. Was hoping for someone with more Big Dance experience, but I guess this is as good as we can get right now.

Hope he does a great job!

There is no place for rationality here on Volnation. You may end up on a lot of ignore lists for comments like that. :)

2.5 - 3, being that Ben Howland was easily available. If Auburn and Louisville are willing to take a risk on coaches with a checkered past then why can't UT?

Another post where you look like a fool. Tyndall does have a checkered past. Howland is toxic. It's not just UT that is avoiding him.

Yeah because Tyndall 's booster activity violations is really comparable to guys like Pearl, Petrino, Sampson etc. Damn near every school has ncaa violations involving boosters, getting to the NCAA to investigate it is another issue.

2. I don't see how this is even an upgrade from Martin.

It's probably a slight upgrade in the coaching department but I don't see a top 25 program with Tyndall. Plus you had his past baggage and I don't see the point.

Listening to a reporter that covers him at SM. Says his style of play is a lot like Conzo's. Say's "it's not too boring if you like defense"

Solid hire IMO. Strictly hire-wise, he even has an edge on Martin.

Knowing that we weren't going to get anyone like Marshall, Howland, or Pitino, I officially approve this hire.

Following the press conference, I agree.
Hopefully, after the first season we will see results!

Good Hire. People are being more generous with this guy than when CBJ was hired. I saw a pretty big poll where he averaged a "D" rating on an A-F scale. Butch pretty much wrote the book on how to win over a disgruntled fan base in as little time as possible. Tyndall needs to consult him immediately.

Time will tell with the new hire. Coach Tyndall has my full support on getting our men's basketball program to the top on a consistent basis. I hope all of VolNation will feel the same way as I do & give him a chance. I have no say who we hire so support & give the new hire a chance.

To make sure I am being true to myself, I ask what would I think if Florida made this hire.

It was the same reaction.

Who the heck is Donnie Tyndall?

As for people that continue to question the hire, or continue to question why another "Unknown"? You all fail to understand that Bruce Pearl was in Tyndall's shoes before he arrived at UT, and made himself known among the college basketball ranks. Tyndall lead a Morehead State to a Sweet 16 appearance, including an upset victory over a much more talented Louisville team. He has the tools and abilities to succeed at Tennessee. Our facilities and tradition will sell itself, and Tyndall has the personality and showmanship to recruit at a high level here.

I wouldn't be surprised to see us back in the tournament next year, as Tyndall will have more overall talent to work with than he's ever had before as a head coach. I'm anxious to see how the team translates to his style of play, hopefully they will flourish.
