there were a lot of 13 year olds there..and i was standing there thinking why do their parents let them come to this. when the lights went off for Wayne, it was like someone opened up the bud gates..everyone in there seemed to be smoking a blunt.

I figured that was the case. Didn't check your profile to see how old you are, but you come across as a smart guy and I can't imagine anyone seeing those artists in their prime and feeling ripped off. I actually cosidered going to the Lil' Wayne show tonight, but the new girlfriend isn't a rap fan. I'd bet Common, Ludacris, and TI could all deliver a $55 worthy show in a 2,000 seat or smaller venue. Rap does lose a whole bunch in translation when you're in a 25,000 seat mega arena.

Yea T.I. is the one exception...I'd probably pay $55 for T.I. I could see Ludacris and Common being great shows too I'm just not into them as much personally.

Hat I never pegged you as a rap guy. That of course is based on essentially nothing, but I'm impressed.

Also I may have already mentioned this in this thread, I'm not real sure, but anyway the funniest thing I've ever seen at a rap concert BY FAR was when I went to Crunkfest in Memphis a couple years back and Ron Artest came out in a Grizzlies jersey and tried to "perform" one of his songs and all his boys came out and were tossing out demo CDs and everyone boo'd the entire time and were throwing the demos back at him. It was an experience I'm not sure you could ever put a price on.

The only current rappers that I would pay to see would be Common, TI, Mr. Mack, Lil Wayne, and a couple others. I love rap, but I wouldn't spend a great amount of money going to their concerts. I don't think it would be worth it

I'm guessing the majority of people there were drunk/high preppy white teenagers who think they are gangsta. That's what the crowd at the Chattanooga show was anyway. From what I've heard, most people that are older, people that have listened to rap for years, and a lot of black people tend to consider Wayne to be a joke. I kind of fall into that category, too. I like a few Wayne songs, and a few others I enjoy the beats but could care less about the lyrics, and the rest has been garbage. The more rap I listen to, the more I appreciate and like the older stuff that I listened to as a kid. To me, rappers like Wayne are a dime a dozen. A few enjoyable songs, but nothing that is profound, groundbreaking, or otherwise memorable in any way.

Co-sign... nothing but truth right there...

I've seen some live performaces of Jay-Z online and on DVD, and they seem to be pretty good because he has a full band in the back playing his hits. Jay-Z is one of the few performers that has some roots from back in the day. The rest of these young bloods probably haven't even heard of Whodini or Rakim. Speaking of Whodini... boy... now they could put on a show in their hayday.

Jay-Z is more of an artist than a "rapper". He is more business-minded and less of an idiot. I'm not a huge Jay-Z fan but I respect his music.

I wasn't feeling Jay-Z until 2001. His album dropped on 9/11. The first good thing I saw on the TV the next day was the "Girls, Girls, Girls" video.

I have been a fan every since.

Now I could probably live with some Jay-Z. He's too big of a star to pass up on
