I thought you had to take a driving test to get a TN license.
I found out today that I that will be required is the vision test. But, my birth certificate isn't here yet. Will be next week sometime, I hope. Then, I have to figure out or find out what happens when/if I fail the vision test. Because, I probably will. This Patriot's Act is killing me trying to get settled back here. I have a solid offer on three handguns but can't sell them because I don't have a Tennessee ID. I can get a TN ID but I have to give up my Utah driver's license. This is the hardest move I've ever made.
I was lucky and was able to keep my TN id when I was out west. If I had stayed any longer I would have hed to give it up. So I have no idea how difficult it is for you. Would a passport work instead of the birth certificate if you have one?
Here's the weird problem. I have kept my car titles, birth certificate and passport in the same folder for years. Somehow, during the move, the folder was lost or misplaced. Can't find it. I received my dup title from Utah and have my car registered now. Also, the RV. Just waiting on the birth cert for license, now. I ordered it Monday and just got an e-mail today that there was a problem. I called them and the problem was they needed to verify the billing address of the card I used. I'm like, WTF? What does that matter and why didn't I know this on Monday. I have thought about driving to Nashville tomorrow to get it but can't be assured by anyone that I would be able to get it the same day. So, waiting.....

That sucks. Last time I was at the dmv an old lady who was adopted and had no birth certificate to verify anything about her due to no records being kept at her birth. She was just trying to get and id so she could fly with a family who had taken her in since she had no one left. I left angry. Seems like it is primarily a money making scheme.

Here's how it used to be just ten years ago. Walk in a say I want to register my car. OK, $25, please. And, you're done.
The thing that flipped me today was finding out that I could get a TN ID but would have to surrender my Utah driver's license. WTF does one have to do with the other? Federal requirement is what I was told.

Tell them you just want an ID. And don't have one in another state it won't cancel it. You just moved from California or somewhere. But you will need a BC plus some Tn bills.
