They were helicopter size in E. Texas. I never saw one the entire time I lived in Utah or California. There are a lot of birds around here and I'm feeding them daily hoping they'll hang here and chow down on the bugs.

Let us know. Seems like a good idea from what I read. I read one article that said they were attracted to heat. So, I can see where the black tape would absorb heat.
