Parents who actually believe they can calm their screaming children in public by scolding them. At a certain level, you take them home and discipline them because yelling at them in public only makes them cry louder.

Don't get me wrong, I love kids(no pedo), but common sense tells you if they're already upset, you're not going to calm them down by giving them more reasons to be upset.

My thought when that happens is that they don't get disciplined at home so why try it in public. That's not every case but it's a lot when the kids are older. We acted in public like we did at home whether parents were around or not. We knew better.

Excellent point. In the end, raising kids isn't much different than a bird dog.

24/7/365 consistency will make for less headaches down the road

Today's world is so different. Too many people worry about their neighbors or the government questioning their parenting. It's almost like the parents have become the children. I'm not for abusing children, but there's a big difference between abuse and a spanking. Unless there are actual signs of abuse, people need to step back and let parents actually parent.

My Dad had a good discipline technique. 4" razor strap hanging on the wall. I don't remember him having to use it after I was around 5 years old.

I know we're worlds away from those old days, but still, there is a way to teach children discipline and respect w/o and type of corporal punishment. I understand a baby or young one crying in a grocery store. It happens. But, a 6 or 7 year old throwing a fit because they couldn't get some cheap toy in the cashier line......no reason for that.

Thought about you earlier today. Took a long drive down memory lane. Passed where the old Chatter Box used to be and Ward's junk yard.

Trying to remember the last time I was in South Knoxville. It's been awhile.

Yeah, I wasn't really talking about the little ones when it comes to spankings, but I do find parents that try to take their infants to a movie annoying. An infant is not likely to sleep peacefully through a movie, so get a sitter or stay home and watch a dvd or something. That's not the kid's fault, that's just idiotic parents.

Another thing I find annoying are these child leashes. It's a crazy world with crazy people so I understand the worry of childsnatchers, but it just looks so wrong to see a kid at the end of a leash.

And to be clear, I don't think corporal punishment works for all kids, but it does for some. Every kid has that one thing you can do or say that serves the purpose. Watching my niece raise her kids(she has 4), her three boys all have different buttons to push to punish them. For the oldest, it was spankings, but the other two respond more to time outs or being grounded from their video games or TV. All kids are different like like that.

On another note, I can't imagine raising a child in today's world.

I fear my kid is going to be an absolute holy terror because her mother and I will never be on the same page.

Just be the best dad you can be. Teach her every life lesson you can and hope it gets through. Always be there for her, always listen, and always love.

And keep her locked in her room until she's 30. :)

I went to a gas station, Winn Dixie, and a bar in the last hour. Was called "boss" twice and " papi"! Wtf is this standard greeting these days?
