I've owned them when they weren't classics. Thought about getting another over the last 20 years but it would have to have upgraded suspension and handling.

I agree it's the design that's awesome not the drum brakes and leaf springs.

A buddy of mine used to get a new Corvette every year. So, we were out cruisin' in his '66 one day when something flashed by us. We get down the road about a mile and it's sitting on the side waiting for us. It was a 427 Cobra. It's the only real one I'd ever seen at that time. This was in South Knoxville.

I got to see a real one under power at Charlotte motor speedway up on the track. Eff those things are loud. Like I said I've driven my boss's replica not sure how it compares but it's basically a go-kart on roids.

I'm surprised that no one has ever tooled up the old bodies and dropped them on current chassis. I think it would be great to be able to buy a brand new 65 GTO built on a 2012 frame.

Shelby was making some pretty amazing cars before he passed. Problem with those is your damn near in the engine. It's so hot and loud I think your average buyer wants something a touch more refined.

Some of the replicas are unreal. There's a company in Cali that builds some of the best. 427 powerplants pushing 5-700 horsepower. Body and interior details are authentic. I'd have to look up the specs but I think the originals were around 2000 pounds. Didn't take a lot of hp to push it.

FTR I still have a scar on my ankle from that replica from not being careful of the side exhausts when I got out. My skin welded to that exhaust in an instant.

Another thing I remember about the AC Cobra. They had an ad at one time that said they could go from 0 to 110 and back to 0 in 13 seconds.

Yes they are light as hell. My boss's has wide wide as tires and it will still roll sideways if you hammer it. And his isn't even a serious stroker.

Probably right. They want a classic hot rod for an every day driver. They were our everyday drivers and we didn't care. 'Course, we were pretty young at the time.

You're always a blast to chat with. My buddies in a hot rod club. I'll have to get him to snap some pics of what they are working on up there. One of his buddies is working on a merc. Several model a roadsters in the mix too. I haven't half a clue talking to those cats.

The last hot rod I owned was refined to the days standards but was still a bad ass. I bought it new. 1998 Z 28 Camaro convertible. Blew the engine within 6 months. Paid a few bucks extra on warranty to have them install the SS 5.7 liter. Then, added a few mods to bump the hp even more. Fun car.
