SF training is much much longer. Shoot me a PM and I'll tell ya all about it...
I'm not going to say which is more prestigious, but what do you think if you had to guess?
Used to be, Special Forces were more of a long term, in country training type missions. Rangers were the move it, hit it and get the hell out types. Special missions requiring heavy firepower and strategic planning.
Can you explain what you mean by in country training type missions? Sort of like what we did in South America?
Getting with the locals and teaching them how what they need to know to take care of their own business. 7th will be a much better knowledge fount for this as my information is from 40+ years ago.
I'm one year away from having two degrees. It just seems like all of that schooling, and all of the money my parents put into it, would be wasted if I decided to pursue something like that.
I'd enjoy it, the physical and mental challenges. I just don't know if I have demeanor for it anymore. That part of me is still down there somewhere, but I've discovered new things too.
It's a challenge alright. What are your thoughts on the possibility of getting killed?
It's not a lifelong commitment. I'm no recruiter and i'm not trying to convince anyone to join, BUT if you are going to join and stay in the military. SOF is the way to go. Ranger of SF are both better than being in the regular army. Either way, you've gotta want it. You'll find out early on if something you want to do.
