I have done this in the past, just dont trust human nature and the bad side of people which comes out normally when money is involved. Your heart is in the right place and he took advantage of it, which is what is pissing you off the most (with exception to the kids). I would surely tell him what I thought of him and his actions, but not sure I would do that in any form other than the phone. You wont accomplish much going over there other than a potential shooting. JMO

Im either dating you or my guy is on your exact same page. This is almost word for word what he told me. Its not the money, its he either stole food outta his kids mouths or used the kids in deceiving me

FWIW.

Get a decent receiver, and you can't go wrong with Bose speakers but, and I learned the hard way, spend as much as you can afford on a good sub woofer. I don't recommend a Bose Sub woofer.

SVS makes some really high rated stuff in subs and now their speaker lines are picking up press for the klipsch price range.

Btw if you can manage in wall that's the best route for sound versus cost. Helped my dad select and wire his JBL inwalls and the sound is better than my infintys.

My bose outdoor speakers are the best thing in the world. The sound quality is amazing and it really makes entertaining at my pool that much more awesome. Yeah....I just gloated

I agree that Bose is over priced.
Jbl is decent entry level and made by Harmon Kardon group
Polk are decent
Klipsch are good
Cerwin Vega is no good, all bass

HTIB. I don't want to piece components. For my needs it will be overkill. I did it on my previous systems when I was single. Wife doesn't want surround sound speakers all over the place. Can't blame her.
