I'm still trying to figure out when the best time to apply would be. They say they check your grades/credits as soon as you apply. To get apartment style housing you have to have 30 credit hours, I will have that easy by the time I actually transfer (obviously). I can't figure out if they'd even let me apply for apartment style now or if I'd have to wait until next semester. Then I worry if I wait that long they'll all be full or something . I called them a week or so ago and they still haven't gotten back to me, it's nerve-wracking lol.

Why don't you apply for this spring?

Good question lol. I actually hadn't thought of that. If I wait till next Fall I will be able to fill out a new FAFSA in January with UT as my school, not RS, and it should boost the amount of money I get. I doubt what I will get currently in spring would pay for much this year anyways.

Probably lynchburg. Unless Bedford is better....

Lynchburg is bigger. Better hotel and restaurant choices.

If you don't mind driving a little bit for shopping, Roanoke is better. It's 45 minutes west. The mall is bigger and nicer. On Saturday morning there is a farmers/craft market downtown Roanoke plus some really cool shops.

Bedford is 20 minutes west on the way to Roanoke. National D-Day Memorial is there. 20 minutes north of Bedford is the Peaks of Otter on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Hike to the top (1 mile) for a 360 view of the fall colors.

Appomattox is 30 minutes northeast. Courthouse where Lee surrendered to Grant and civil war battlefields.

Charlottesville is an hour north. Monticello, Thomas Jeffersons home, is there. Great shopping and restaurants there also. Route 20 going north from Charlottesville passes through several civil war battlefields. It's a pretty drive through horse farms.

Hope this helps.
