Have you tried the boiling water in a bowl then stick your down over it and put a towel over your head? Never tried it myself, but I have heard it works.

I've heard it work, too. Never tried it though. Last time I had one this bad, many years ago, it blew a hole in my left eardrum. Srsly. Blood trickled out and scared the crap outta me.
