That sucks. Hate to hear it VG. Have you thought about getting a large outside dog?

No maybe we should.

I feel for you. Hate to say this but once that happened to me, I never felt happy in that house again. Had to move.

Just knowing someone was in my home/on our property is freaky but to know that its happened at least 3 times. I am uber paranoid.

I take it no one was home?

For the break in...no. Last night it was a $3000 trailer that was in our yard and the tongue had a lock on it too.

They will still grow, just not as freely as the others. (root confinement in a pot). They may not produce as much either but better than them attacking your beans and peppers and inhibiting their growth and production. I have no problem with critters getting to my unfenced squash. However they are detered by the hounds during the day,but wabbits also come out to eat at night. Once the squash blooms, you need only wait a few days before they are ready to be picked. Too big gets tough, small and tender about 6 inches or so.

We put an owl with a swivel head by our garden...yea none of the animals even bat an eye at him. They just go about their merry way picking and nibbling. I have heard marigolds deter furry friends because of the awful smell they have.

My sniper rifle is my protection.

That's all fine and well if you know its happening. But if it happens while you're not home or asleep then it doesn't really matter if you have a weapon or not.

And heres the kicker. I heard something outside at about 4 am but didn't find the noise suspicious enough to check it out. Man I wish I had now dagnabit! :banghead2:

no kidding, ive sent many coyotes to the grave with that thing, pop them in the neck, nearly takes their danged head straight off

I'd hate to see what that would do to a leg or an arm if anybody ever decided to come in my room unwelcome.

they are vicious, theres a lot of kids that live on the property, i mean one of those would demolish a 6 year old playing in their backyard

The only time I have come face to face with one is when I was at a friends house and we were throwing rocks, well one of the rocks hit a demolished barn and a coyote comes running out at us. I'm really glad we both had guns, we tore that thing up.

Thanks for the tips. I might try to move a few of them. I guess it's better to try and they not make it if they free up some room for the ones I leave.

Hey Jhen, VIF and I have had great results with squash, particularly zucchini. The yellow squash is more finicky. Sevin dust, liquid or powder works great on all vegi's to keep the pests off.

As far as putting your extra squash outside the garden, no problem. Dig a gallon sized hole in your red clay. mix the removed soil with black cow manure or mushroom compost, or if you're in a pinch miracle grow soil will work. You have to mix it with the existing soil or the roots will not spread in the ground. You should have great luck! VIF and I have been working on our garden for many years. We have been retraining ourselves for Florida gardening.

Hey Rocki, what would be your answer to this question?

What makes southern barbecue any different from northern BBQ?

:neener2:pHBBT!!!!!!!!!!!! I never read too much into anything. It is men who over think.
In North Carolina the meat is chopped or sliced pig and the sauce is peppery vinegar.

South Carolina and Georgia the pig is doused in a yellow mustard-based sauce.

Tennessee, the pulled pig region usually serves a sweet tomato sauce flavored with pepper and molasses. MY RECIPE!!!! MY FAVORITE!!!!!!!!!!
