Random thoughts/stats/discussion after 4 games

3 very quick fouls on McGee tonight and none of them were "dumb".

In fact I thought all 3 were poor calls.

Now that fouls trouble limited his playing time severely and he ends not playing hardly at all at the end and only got 3fouls total.

If indeed he is the guy Barnes wants playing the minutes it makes nonsense taking him our after the 2nd foul in the first half and sitting the rest of the half.

You realize every foul he commits puts the opposition 1 closer to the bonus, right? McGhee was once again first guy into the post off the bench, unfortunately he continued the trend of quickly returning to the bench with 2 fouls.

And then Alexander gets 4 and plays more minutes.

Not sure your point especially considering the fouls tonight. 2 of them should have been charges IMO

But they weren't, nobody else has the foul issues Jabari has, if you don't see that then so be it, but enough with that topic.

Not speaking for the other games but tonight's fouls weren't his fault unless you expect him to allow a free drive when a guard is blown by. He was in position

There was one time tonight where Jabari got up and headed to check in, the ref blew the whistle and called a foul right as he got to the scorer's table and I thought "that was quick".

Thought he was too on at least one of them. Set and outside the arc.

Refs aren't calling consistent from game to game from what I've watched so far.

My concern with Jabari's foul trouble is he's gained a reputation with referees to be prone. That will keep him from getting the benefit of the doubt with any crew we get, til he starts stringing together games of unnecessary reaches in the post and out of position recovery fouls, like he did tonight. Imo

I thought he did a good job tonight of being his agressive self, but didn't get the benefit of at least 2 of his fouls. But its gonna take multiple crews seeing tape of smart aggressive.

Mostella has hit a wall it seems, he better be careful because of Turner gets eligible Mostella may find himself as odd man out. Punter would likely slide to the 2, knocking Baulkman to 6th man and essentially eliminating most of Mostella's current minutes.

Someone has to emerge, whether it's Turner, Mostella, Phillips or McGhee someone needs to. The starting 5 is a pretty solid group, they seem to be finding a rhythm and are developing nicely, but we can't go 5 deep, we got find another couple guys to consistently contribute.

George Washington beat Gardner Webb tonight 94-65, this is gonna be probably the best team to date we have played, I would give them the edge over GT. I am guessing the line will open with GW probably favored by about 4.5, but we'll see. GW likes to shoot the 3 ball, starts WF transfer Tyler Cavenaugh at the 4 who goes 6'9" 235 and Larsen at center who goes 6'10" 265lbs. They aren't all that deep, so this could be a game where we have to implement our tempo all game long to hopefully tire the legs of their bigs, gonna need a huge effort from Moore/Reese/McGhee to pull off the upset.

At least one of the fouls tonight was unfortunate... but it was probably the correct call by rule. Maybe a no call was appropriate. I think that it was #2 on JMc. He was pretty much standing still inside the arc, was run over by somebody driving, and was whistled for a foul. By rule are offensive players supposed to be allowed to steam roll over a defender any time they are inside the arc? If yes, Punter, Hunbs, and Moore need to take advantage of that on every possession.

If its the play I recall he had clearly moved outside the arc when the contact occurred. No wonder he was upset and looked confused. I thought it was a complete bs call.

Good post Bleed. THAT's the kind of post I enjoy reading not this back and forth gotcha stuff. Thanks for posting!!!

The most frustrating thing about McGhee's defense is his desire to either block the shot or take a charge. It seems like he never wants to simply contest a shot.

- I'm hoping for Jabari's sake he can figure out this fouling thing, the aggravating part is most of them seem to be dumb fouls, slapping at a guy after he grabs a defensive rebound, just sprint back and play D. It's obvious he's ahead of Alexander and Kasongo, his body has definitely benefited from a redshirt year, and he's definitely shown flashes. If he can eliminate the dumb fouls his minutes will go up and you will see little of Alexander and Kasongo, Jabari has shown flashes offensively and defensively that make you excited to think he's got another 3 years of eligibility after this season.

GBO

I have no idea how we can take anything seriously around here

1 week ago we are excited about this kid having 3 years of eligibility remaining and is clearly ahead of the other 2 kids.

The kid plays less than 5min in a week, the other 2 kids, show virtually nothing to get excited about, and yet the same poster says the writing was on the wall

And he post later in this thread Barnes wants this kid to play 25min per game

so so comical.

Yes I was wrong on that. I have posted that about 100times now

You going to post you were wrong here instead of the bs acting you knew all along?

I was wrong with my post, my comment about writing being on the wall had to do with McGhee not getting off the bench and then being someone not mentioned at all by Barnes today, seemed to be trending that way. With limited spots going forward someone was going to be leaving, and more may, with his benching the arrow started pointing that direction.

Thanks for clarifying.

I respect that post
