Doh! Only time a cop ever said anything was many years ago in Florida. I decided I was going to sleep in my vehicle on the beach at Daytona. I honestly didn't know you couldn't at that time. They just told me I had to leave. A lot of people do it at rest areas. The second year I came out to Utah on vacation, I used rest areas for long naps. It's almost a 30 hour drive time to here and I wanted to get here as fast as possible. So, whenever I felt sleepy, I'd pull over and nap a 1/2 hour or so.

I thought a rest area was for pit stops only, for some reason. You probably couldn't on the beach because of the tides.

I was backed up all the way to the concrete abutments that separate the motels from the beach. Looking back, a lot of people doing it is probably what prompted the law against it.
