Hell I turned my whole yard over to nature about 2 years ago after a drought wiped it out. I put out nothing except my annual summer fire ant chit. Fleas were ubber bad last year though I may blast them too, they gave us a fit with 2 dogs for several weeks even though we treat the dogs.!

I know what you mean Tex. The stuff I use is used on golf courses and has been for years. I put as little pesticides out as I can but your kid stepping in a fire ant mound will have you looking for plan B. We have them bad around me.

Read up on the health problems of people who fetch golf balls out of the ponds/lakes. They get sick as hell from the chemicals that run off into them.

I had 2 stray dogs come up last year and took over my deck while I was gone for the week. We had fleas so bad you literally couldnt go back there. I tried everything. A friend of mine suggested Thiadan. I mixed it in a pump up sprayer and sprayed twice a day for a week. They were gone. Every last one of them. It also killed all the lizards, bees, wasps, beatles, etc., but the fleas were gone.

I understand but I'm gonna give my kids a yard they can play in barefoot. If I do nothing they can't and when they fall down they have to jump right up. I'm all about balance fire ants are all about pain and are invasive as a bish.

I've heard the same thing about roundup, once it hits the dirt it becomes inert. On the leaves, kaboom, on the dirt fizzle.

Problem you have nowadays is, are the companies that make this crap being upfront about the long term affects? Everyone knows people lie to make a dollar.

I remember the good ole days when you could go to the Co-op and get what you needed to kill a specific bug or rodent. Now the **** is so watered down, it wont kill anything.

Fleas suck because you have to hit 3 life cycles. So 3 treatments. This year I think I will treat the yard once and avoid it. If the dogs are treated they jump on the dog, realize he's treated and jump off in the house. My vet said dry weather last year caused one of the worst infestations in a decade around here.

I know, just the thought of putting some chemical down that may cause my kids cancer or some illness just makes me sick.

proof that none of us have a life. We are on a message board at 1 am talking about ants and fleas. Im good with that though.

No doubt i read my labels and send the fam off to grandpas when I spread. The bait I use is like a rice granule so it's not dust or spray everywhere like some.

Got plenty of red ants, no thanks.

I have an uncle from GA used to cuss about fire ants 10 years ago and I always thought he was a little whacky. Then they came to NC. I'll tell you what those fookers are the worst. I'd rather deal with hornets. Heck we let bees, spiders, etc alone. I even leave the occasional mole alone and tell my buddies they are free aeration. But me and fire ants oh we do battle. Son got lit up already this year. I got lit up the other morning. War on bishes.
