I know what you mean Tex. The stuff I use is used on golf courses and has been for years. I put as little pesticides out as I can but your kid stepping in a fire ant mound will have you looking for plan B. We have them bad around me.
Hell I turned my whole yard over to nature about 2 years ago after a drought wiped it out. I put out nothing except my annual summer fire ant chit. Fleas were ubber bad last year though I may blast them too, they gave us a fit with 2 dogs for several weeks even though we treat the dogs.!
Read up on the health problems of people who fetch golf balls out of the ponds/lakes. They get sick as hell from the chemicals that run off into them.
Fleas suck because you have to hit 3 life cycles. So 3 treatments. This year I think I will treat the yard once and avoid it. If the dogs are treated they jump on the dog, realize he's treated and jump off in the house. My vet said dry weather last year caused one of the worst infestations in a decade around here.I had 2 stray dogs come up last year and took over my deck while I was gone for the week. We had fleas so bad you literally couldnt go back there. I tried everything. A friend of mine suggested Thiadan. I mixed it in a pump up sprayer and sprayed twice a day for a week. They were gone. Every last one of them. It also killed all the lizards, bees, wasps, beatles, etc., but the fleas were gone.
I understand but I'm gonna give my kids a yard they can play in barefoot. If I do nothing they can't and when they fall down they have to jump right up. I'm all about balance fire ants are all about pain and are invasive as a bish.
Got plenty of red ants, no thanks.
