Radio poses a good question

Butch proved that losing games closely doesn't ensure a breakthrough season the next year. I'll take the 7-5, please (actually I'm going with an optimistic 8-4).

Interesting question.

Id go 5-7 fir reasons mentioned already.

Close losses to Bama, UF, and GA would ostensibly mean they are closing the gap unless all 3 just had really bad games or some other fluke.
As a player I rather have a winning 7-5 and a chance to be playing in a Bowl game somewhere to make it a 8-5 season than sitting at home watching Bama, FL, GA bowl game thinking it must be nice to play in a bowl game.

5-7 sounds like Sean Connery in The Rock. Your best, losers always whine about their best, winners go home and bleep the prom queen.

This isn't a tough question at all. 7-5 all day long.

Here's a better question. Would you rather go 6-6 with wins over Alabama, Georgia, and Florida or go 9-3 with losses to those 3?

Listening online today and The Sports Animal posed a good question (shocking I know)…would you rather Tennessee go 7-5 with 5 blowout losses or go 5-7 and lose those 7 on the last possession

OP is not a good question for me because I rather neither.

Instant gratification or increased odds of an even more successful future team. I'll take 5-7, with 1 score losses, knowing things are actually looking better for the future and we can actually compete against even the toughest teams.

7-5, with 5 blowout losses is fool's gold, traded to people seeking instant gratification.

That‘s like asking, “Would you prefer a kick in the nuts, or fixing the Christmas tree lights?” Thursday night can’t get here soon enough!

Like we get a choice? That is the problem with Knoxville sports radio. They have to create all kinds of scenarios to keep their gums smacking.

The other thing they do is interview each other like they they are the real experts. Their experience or knowledge is no better than average fans. If you want an expert then interview a player or a coach.

Either one would be an upgrade from the previous 3 coaching staffs. So I’ll flip a coin on that one and take whatever side it lands on.

If our offense can score 45 points per game like UCF did (with Huepel), I don't give a darn if we lose all of them. I am just ready to see something other than 3 downs and punt.

7-5. No matter how sh!tty the bowl game, its still a bowl game. It rewards the guys for playing well for the season and its extra practices for the team and coaches. Win-Win.

That’s a sick question. I’ll take 7-5 now. Regardless. Vols are clear underdogs in 3 games. They would go 3-2 in toss up games? Hell yes.

bowl game makes all the difference. That’s a whole extra month of practice, meetings, install.

IF 5-7 were possible and still slip into a bowl (which happens if there are more bowls than eligible teams) then that would be my pick.

If they make a bowl game, would the extra practices be enough to to catch up the the teams that handed us 5 blowout losses? That's a lot of ground to make up, compared to a team who only lost games by 3-7pts.

Also, does a team that had 5 blowout losses deserve a bowl more than a team whose only losses were by 3-7pts?

A win is a win and a loss is a loss. There are no asterisks by the games signifying you only lost by a small amount.

7-5 is better than 5-7.

5-7 and all close games would do wonders for recruiting. It would give us the “If we’d just had you” magic line that high school kids love to hear.
