I've seen all of these espn commercials about bama and a bunch of other colleges, players, ad coaches. Do the schools pay? Why isn't Tennessee in one? I'm sure Bama pays for it. Jut wknderin. Im sure its good for recruiting. Thanks guys

I've had this conversation on multiple occasions. If "School X" were to pay for that kind of advertising, I believe it would be highly illegal, considering the avenue used.

If "School X" did not pay for it, how is that not some sort of unfair bias on ESPN's part towards the schools not used? That gives a direct recruiting and publicity advantage. I would understand if ESPN were supporting the SEC as a whole, due to their contract agreement, but to pick one or two gives some sort of advantage to the viewers.

I could be wrong, probably just trying to make a case since it wasn't my team selected, but would like to throw in my two cents.

We probably need Hat for this one...

Schools can pay to have commercials on any broadcast that they would like. Generally they have to throw in something about academics as well.

There was one last season with Urban Meyer talking about coaches "signature sideline apparel" and He pointed out his national championship rings. Even though I strongly dislike urban, it was kind of funny.

air time promotions do have a dollar value ... if those college programs are accepting a commercial good or service ... from "boosters"?

I think the fact that THIS has over 30K visits and been linked in several sports blogs/sites is better than some ad on ESPN when someone is getting a beer or taking a pee...

"Viral Marketing" is where it's at in 2010+....
