Several years ago when we had artificial turf we painted the endzones from the checkerboard section all the way to the white lines around the endzone with orange. Then when we went to grass we were told that the NCAA had a new rule that there had to be a 2 foot border around all white lines of the endzone to distinguish the boundaries.
I have noticed that several schools and most bowl games have completely painted endzones. What gives here? If you look at the old photos the endzones were much more dramatic with the whole area painted.
