Several years ago when we had artificial turf we painted the endzones from the checkerboard section all the way to the white lines around the endzone with orange. Then when we went to grass we were told that the NCAA had a new rule that there had to be a 2 foot border around all white lines of the endzone to distinguish the boundaries.

I have noticed that several schools and most bowl games have completely painted endzones. What gives here? If you look at the old photos the endzones were much more dramatic with the whole area painted.

You might see entire end zones painted but I doubt you'll see any patterns featuring the color white near boundary lines or the goal lines. Those white boxes close to the white lines had to drive officials crazy.

But we were using orange at the time.

We have not changed the configuration of the checkerboard itself, but only eliminated the orange boundary.

I would say that you are dead on. You don't want a white "decoration" that blends with the with out of bounds line....talk about a nightmare for the officials.

Try for a minute to be unbiased on this one. Can anyone think of a better endzone design than ours. I can't, but then again I'm biased.

It's not an endzone design, but I think LSU has the best midfield graphic in the nation. It's hard to beat the checkerboard endzones though.

Look at Fresno State's end-zones... exactly like ours, except for the red. I think Pat Hill liked what he saw when they came back here last.

Never have the checkerboard leave. It is Tennessee and will always be....Make the edges what ever but do not take the orange and white checkerboard.....
