Lots of questions as we wake up 2-4 this morning. Wanted to lay a few things out and avoid the optimistic/pessimistic ditches and aim for realistic.

1) The defense should be better. In my opinion the reason it’s not is because of the defensive line. We have zero dynamic pass rushers (think Barnett) and zero interior monsters (think Hayensworth). They may be on the roster (Simmons, Thomas, Joseph, etc) but those guys had no offseason and are young.

The flip side is that many will argue that Arkansas is in the same boat with their team and yet they are winning. Granted. I think it’s a function of Briles more than their D.

2) Quarterback play dynamically alters teams. I totally disagree with anyone who thinks Chaney can’t coach. The guy was solid here before and even last year at times (Bama game) was really dialed in, in my opinion.

JG ain’t it. Maurer ain’t it. And not having an off-season really stunted Bailey. When you have a stud at the QB position your team simply looks different.

3) Need to move on from Friend. There’s way to much talent on the OL to play like they did against UGA.

4) Need a thumper at RB. We’ve got talent but we desperately need a big back, and it shows.

5) We HAVE to hang on to this recruiting class. Particularly at RB, LB and DL. It’s insanely important. I don’t know how you do it besides blaming COVID and lack of QB.

Tennessee went through the same pandemic that every other team did but they are the only ones that look like they have never played organized football. How is that possible? What did they fail to do that Arkansas did?

We just got smoked by a first year head coach at Arkansas.

It's on the coaches that we don't have a better QB than what we have in year three. It's that simple.
Too many eggs in the JG basket for sure. Other than that it’s hard to say what’s up with the others. I wonder if they are making good use of their free time.

I'm sorry to be the one to point this out. You're wrong. And people like you who think this are part of the problem.

Since we can't get objective opinions from radio hosts/news reporters for fear they'll be blocked and black balled from the facility. We get their "honest opinion" that the problems are always more this or more that. Dooley just needed a defensive coordinator and wins and then the recruits would come. Butch just needed more time to get an experienced roster in that could play the way his offense needed to since the fans ran off his previous OC who had this amazingly prolific offense. Now it's give Jeremy time, he ones football, he's followed Saban around like a little puppy, surely he's the next big thing. He may be in ten years. But there's a reason he spent ten plus as an assistant. Just like Holly spent 20 years as one. That's all they are. Sorry. Truth hurts. Not everyone is capable of leading. People need to open their freaking eyes and learn some simple truths. Head coaches aren't trained, grown, developed, they are born that way. Just like Bill Gates isn't like your local trailer park daddy. Or General Eisenhower wasn't like the really smart guy at your local electronics store. Pruitt is a coordinator, that's it. Butch is a position coach who rode coat-tails up the ranks. Dooley is an administrator who played football and people are desperate for Sabanites. How many followers of great leaders ever turn into ones themselves. The percentages tell you less than 5 percent, and probably less than 1. Followers follow, Saban doesn't hire guys for their leadership. He hired guys because they'll do what he tells them. Just like Pruitt is trying to copy here and do. It's his way or the highway, ask Brumbaugh. Pruitt isn't leading, he's mimicking. And copies are never as good as the original.

Big OL, no physical TEs, no big backs. Lack of speed at WR. Poor QB. Below average offensive play calling.

Weinke was the QB coach for the Rams when they took Jared Goff. Goff's rookie season was viewed as one of the absolute worst for a top pick and he looked like a total bust. Coaching staff is fired and Goff makes the Pro Bowl the very next year.

Weinke needs to go and doesn't have any QB on his resume he can point to that shows he is a good QB coach. In fact his track record is terrible in that department.

Dude, we're not hanging on to this class. On top of that, unless we nab a proven coach (Freeze), I suspect some of our talented, younger players will take advantage of the one time transfer rule that's coming. If this admin sits on their collective arses, and sticks with Pruitt, we'll find ourselves right back here again next year with a lesser 21 class and roster than we have right now. On top of that, we'll be seeing Freeze at another SEC program beating our brains out while we sit here posting about how we could have and should have hired him when we got the chance. Problem is....we're UT and that's not how we roll.

This has some truths to it, especially about coordinators. You never and probably never will see someone like Brent Venables become a head coach, and it’s not that no one will hire him to be but he knows what he is and darn good at it

There is no excuse for the QB play last night other than poor coaching. It is just inexcusable that we had 3 QB’s in the game and the play was as bad as it was.

Apparently we had super secret protocols that nobody else had. I've asked this many times when people say "but we missed practice, spring, etc), with no real answer.

Hopefully JG is ruled out for the next four games.

Only bad thing is they'll roll with Maurer and I actually feel like he's regressed. Now with this season a bust if Pruitt comes to his senses and throws HB in the fire along with Hyatt and some other freshmen, even if they continue to lose, I'd be ok with this. (Although I do hope that JG is ok in the physical sense, dont wish anyone to get hurt)

If we had used last year and the first five games this year to train an experienced backup qb, this would hot have happened.

Mauer should have been given enough play last year to be a very capable backup. Instead, our staff prefers to give them experience in desperate situations where success is not probable.

We didn't even use the first five games to break in a capable backup. Just very bad coaching imo.
