- Quarterback Rating - Advanced Database

Had lunch today with 3 extremely knowledgeable men (I guess that's the best way to say it without saying their names) and all three agreed. The one single thing that will help JG more than any is developing a strong, consistent run game. That changes everything. Of course it doesn't take three well seasoned football minds to convince me that's true but I it does help to be reminded of that by someone who actually knows the game so well.
The only reason that drives stalled out is because JG missed throws on 3rd down

Maurer is reckless with the football. He was really bad in every game he played.

Don't really agree with this. Rather, I'd say Maurer's problem was this performances were even more uneven than JG's. Maurer at his best was extremely difficult to stop. Maurer at his worst was making reckless plays and turning the ball over. In other words, Maurer has a higher ceiling than JG, but also a much deeper downside. That latter bit has kept him from seeing the field more.

He has a strong arm and runs fast, but in reality he is not ready. Makes horrible decisions that lead to turnovers...can't see free blitzers coming off the edge and gets concussed....tucks the ball and tries to run like a RB and gets concussed/almost breaks his neck trying to hurdle defenders.... etc.

Good grief, he was a true freshman who got his first start against one of the best defenses in college football. He was young and made mistakes, go figure. He also showed some flashes of intangible skills that JG doesn't seem to possess. Cut him some slack. Hopefully he grows into the role.

Our run game was real good last weekend. And also how does the run game help JG to realize he needs to throw it to the wide open man and not into triple coverage? I didnt see JG getting tons of pressure causing him to make hurried throws. For sure that will happen against Florida and Bama, but that wasnt the case against USCjr

Actually our run game was really bad in the first half...granted the OL missed several assignments and when we needed it on 1st and 2nd down in the second half it struggled too...granted a couple of ill timed penalties hurt that as well...Obviously a strong run game assist the QB's throw game more than anything...Was JG inconsistent? Well only Ray Charles couldnt see that both on the field and the endless threaded started here..

seeing posters making absolutely ignorant post like this makes me even wonder if they watched the game because comments like this prove they certainly didn’t understand the game that was played in Columbia South Carolina Saturday night

only 10 yards rushing the first half and JG didn’t thow a single pass into double coverage all night much less Triple.

smh at some of the lack of football knowledge shown here

LOL ! One play he tried to hurdle someone and was hurt and you make it seem like he made a career out of it. He took one blindside hit and got hurt and you think he made a career out of that. Another LOL ! What a joke analysis.

May have learned. Deserves another series.
The last pass he threw last season was off his back leg across the middle that should have been intercepted. It wasn't his 1st time doing it either. Maybe he's learned but you don't risk the entire season trying to find out unless emergency occurs or you're writing off the season.

Stats don't mean better just means the play caller or play calling was better and/ or played it safe with him. Also could indicate that the opponent was worse at some point. Our 3rd down % was an indication and another poster charted all his throws and he missed numerous times trying to throw bullets. I can never recall a 5th yr qb this bad unless they played for Ky or Vandy.

Couple that with a 5th yr QB voicing that he was hurrying throws cuz he was worried about being hit..that doesn't scream confidence to me to have happy feet and fear as a 4 yr starter...IMO

That's coach speak
Hmm, that doesn't look like coach speak to me.

Coach speak is, "we are just focusing on one game at a time, and that's the game this Saturday," or "we only control what we control," or "it doesn't matter whether you get knocked down, it only matters whether you get back up," and so on. That's what coach speak looks like.

This looks like some pretty detailed analysis of a player's performance by a guy who knows the game far better than you and me.

Now, you could question whether it's a complete appraisal. You could question whether it is a fully objective appraisal. But there's no doubt this goes well beyond just being coach speak. :)

Could be coaching up a player...I don't trust JG confidence level right now....I hope that changes

Just as I figured he never said he was worried about getting hit.

It really is sad so many posters make stuff up trying to score points.
He literally said it seemed i was gonna get....explain to me how if getting hit wasnt a worry...1...why rush the throw..you should know your gonna get hit..2..why bring it up...

Please tell me how he meant it??

You cant be serious...

lol

You realize that every single player that’s ever played QB has had plays where getting hit effected their footwork right ???

Mentioning they didn’t step into pressure doesn’t mean they were scared like you said.

Crazy you act like this is only bad because it’s a 5th year QB. Go watch Tom Brady play QB and tell me how he does when pressure is into his face with stepping into his throws
