Altmyer doesn't strike me as someone that can take us to the playoff but he certainly could keep us in the 8-4 range with a shot at 9-3. While Nico has more arm talent and running ability, Altmyer makes up for it with his ability to see the field and process better. I think he would definitely have a leg up on both Merk and Mac because of his experience, but definitely also see him as being more of a game manager. I think we'd rely heavily on the run game and defense again this year, but if he's the best we can do, probably worth bringing him in and making it a bridge year to get FB here to compete for the job next year.

Does Altmyer get an extra year it this new rule passes? Like could he be here for 2 seasons? If so, that’s an even bigger plus. You could RS Faizon his first season then transition right to him.

My money is 100% on Heupel waiting to see what Ag does at UCLA. Altmyer isn’t leaving Illinois. And if Ag doesn’t leave UCLA by Tuesday, then it’ll be the ND guy.

Yup. UF and Bama both could have probably been 2 score games, and we definitely don't lose to Arky.

My money is 100% on Heupel waiting to see what Ag does at UCLA. Altmyer isn’t leaving Illinois. And if Ag doesn’t leave UCLA by Tuesday, then it’ll be the ND guy.

I will trust staff here with this. Whoever fits our talent on roster best. Encouraging we are in on several of these portal guys.

Altmyer is the definition of meh but we can win 8-9 games with him. CJH will scheme up some lay ups and if Altmyer can connect (unlike Nico) then we’ll be fine.

If the new rule passes, it would eliminate red shirts. 5 years for 5 years of eligibility.

Only thing I heard was before the Nico ordeal and it was we would be no doubt adding at least one WR and DT.

Ever since the Nico deal went down it’s been quiet. I’ve also not been badgering as I’ve just assumed it’s been a stressful time.

Hoping for some news soon for sure.
