I don’t keep up with everything, but he mentioned Altmyer very early. Last Saturday to be exact.

Looking back, it was actually on Friday, April 11th. Like you, I don't keep up with everything any one poster says, either, but that was a pretty early read given Nico hadn't even been booted at that point. So I will admit he was early on this one. I've just seen him miss a lot in the past and never really be one I've noticed to come back around and own it. But if he hits this one, I'll lend more credence to his word going forward.

Wouldn’t be able to play next year. So I would assume not happening

Our D upfront will be ready, the ends should be very good. Don’t underestimate our DL. I think linebackers will be good and get better as the season goes. Telander and Carter are both very good players and we have some good younger talent that should emerge there. The key on D will be how good the backend is. We must get some good play back there. Also I expect a few Dline guys will be pursued in the portal for added depth. But we still have some dudes upfront. GBO

I agree. Defense has some dudes and good coaches. Still question half our offensive staff. But if we’re making the playoff most years, how can we complain

Well the bright side is Merk and GMAC were highly recruited for a reason. And even if the transfer is an underwhelming name, remember no one was doing back flips when Hooker transferred here. Just gotta have faith in the coaching staff

He pops up occasionally-usually around recruiting time. He's right maybe 75% of the time . Most of his info is the same as AP. This, however, is a leap from what he usually provides. I think he'll get insider status if this deal doesn't "fall through"

The previous year, his stats were very good. Last year, not so much. Maybe his team was just that bad around him.

If it makes you feel any better. Illinois insider told his following to go enjoy and have a Happy Easter and “Luke” wasn’t going to Tennessee. That was around 1pm today.

One thing I noticed about Altmyer is that while putting up similar numbers to Nico last year, UT’s offense was #9 in the nation for plays per game while Illinois was ranked #119. Similar numbers while running >10 less plays per game.

I hope we get him.

Altmyer doesn't strike me as someone that can take us to the playoff but he certainly could keep us in the 8-4 range with a shot at 9-3. While Nico has more arm talent and running ability, Altmyer makes up for it with his ability to see the field and process better. I think he would definitely have a leg up on both Merk and Mac because of his experience, but definitely also see him as being more of a game manager. I think we'd rely heavily on the run game and defense again this year, but if he's the best we can do, probably worth bringing him in and making it a bridge year to get FB here to compete for the job next year.

Does Altmyer get an extra year it this new rule passes? Like could he be here for 2 seasons? If so, that’s an even bigger plus. You could RS Faizon his first season then transition right to him.
