'25 QB transfer prospects (Joey Aguilar)

Nico wasn’t fantastic but he wasn’t bad either. He’s definitely better than Aguilar
Nico is certainly more talented and I’m bummed it didn’t work out, but to suggest there is no way we could replace his production from last year is silly.

He left likely 10+ touchdowns on the field last year from simply not hitting the open man.

Who was jumping up and down with happiness when we got Hooker? No one! He regressed the year before and ended up being great. Milton was also WAY better under Heupel than at Michigan. Let our coach cook. He knows what he's doing.

Maybe he will pull a Hooker and just be amazing.

But more likely than not he’ll stay mediocre

Somehow trash ass UCLA ends up with a better end of the deal, how comical lmao
They literally did nothing and got the better option. We roll the red carpet out for a 5* and basically just got the big orange screw.

This sport is messed up when an agent and father can alter the trajectory of a team by trying to extort the school.

You think a guy who threw 14 interceptions last year would have gotten those 10+ touchdowns Nico missed?

Can this kid run at all?

Wouldnt mind some real qb run game again. Ive missed that since Hooker was here and god knows we cant find anyone that can hit the broadside of a barn since.

Can't even talk myself into getting excited for this season.

Just feels like any sort of momentum this program had just dissipated.
like it just now dissipated? Or right after we lost Nico. Because there was no way we were bringing in a stud QB to replace Nico with the tining, and if you pass on Aguilar and either roll with 2 guys who have no experience and you bring in someone else that is not gonna compete for the job, then yeah, certainly the momentum is gone because we are likely to have a huge setback. You bring in Aguilar and you at least give yourself a shot with someone who just needs to clean up the INTs. Pick up the BYU receiver and maybe one more guy, and hope that you can get to 8 or 9 wins.

Everyone lost at the end of the day.

Tennessee is more than likely gonna be worse at QB than we would have been with Nico. Nico is now making about 1/2 what he would have made at Tennessee this year, on a worse team, with fans that don’t really even care about football.

This is what happens when dad thinks he’s the one in charge and is in way over his head. Already cost his son close $1 million just this year alone

The team with the highest NIL salary just won the NC. In the world of sports money is the currency, not moral victories.
That isn't why we cut him loose. There was no stand about money. The stand was about quiting on your team, something they had threatened before.

0 people on this board would have traded Nico for Aguilar in December. Now we have to put the orange colored glasses on and act like everything is hunkydory.
I wanted Nico more when I thought he was going to practice and putting in work to help the team win.

If Aguilar buys in and wins the job he'll put up better numbers in this offense than Nico did this year. I don't have any doubt about that.

I don’t think I’m focused on turnovers when CJH has a large body of work showing he can mitigate those with his QB’s
Yeah but if he constantly threw the ball to the other team why do you think he would have made the throws Nico didn’t.

Aguilar is a downgrade, let’s be real. I think he’s probably the best option we have but I’m not going to pretend to be happy about it

It wasn't a stand about money. And money can't buy everything.
The dude actually sat out of practice while his father was negotiating a $2M raise. If it's not about the money then why even ask? This was exactly what it looked like IMHO. Nico didn't want to leave Tennessee. He even said as much.

“My journey at UT has come to an end. This decision was incredibly difficult, and truthfully, not something I expected to make this soon. But I trust God’s timing, and I believe He’s leading me where I need to be."

Father and agent made Nico's journey a climb up a mountain when it should have stayed a walk in the park.

Acting like what Nico did last year was so great… smh. Dude was mediocre at best. If we land Joey Aguilar he will do just fine in Heupel’s offense. Appalachian state was a BAD team this past year, and TBH he wasn’t the best fit for their offense. He will fit in with Heupel’s offense and he will be a one year guy which is perfect for our situation. The question isn’t whether he can replace Nico. The question is whether or not we can play elite defense again, or if Sampson can be adequately replaced. If those questions are answered we will have another good year.

If Nico had a real agent this would have easily worked out for everyone involved imo

Right, it was a stand on quitting on your team. The contract would have been upgraded and met somewhere in the middle, most likely closer to what Nico's people were asking for.

But when they followed through on prior threats to sit out, the line was drawn. This was never a stand about money. It was a stand on basic principles.

Aguilar would at least match Nico's production from last season and possibly beat it...if he starts. I think this would be a move to bring in a capable experienced guy to compete for the job and solidify depth and not necessarily bringing in a guy with the full expectation that he's the starter. That being said, it would be the most talent he's ever had around him and he could prove to be a good QB when given that opportunity.
