QB Competition: Bray and Simms

This is a stupid discussion. If either QB is smoking weed, I dont want them on the team. That is against the law and the rules of the school, the SEC, and the NCAA. If anybody on the team is doing it, punish them, and if they do anything else kick them. Regardless of talent, it shows how little they care about the team they are supposed to be "leading" if they are willing to jepeordize the team by using drugs.

I would say that it would be documented if either QB were using drugs, I would like to think that the team has random drug tests, as well as the SEC and NCAA.

The Better QB will start, and no one, on here or otherwise, really knows who that is...

Coach Dooley will tell us, which IMO, he already has. From what I've seen and read, Simms is the starter.

Get over it, you negaVols always have to complain about something...

I know it has been said many times, but IMHO, I think the biggest issue with Bray is his inability to gain the weight needed to not DIE on national TV due to Alabama blitzing on 3rd and 15. The guy looks down right FRAIL to me. We are obviously not going to win a National Championship this year, so maybe Simms is the sacrificial lamb? If Bray is the so called "Quarterback of the Future" then why send him to slaughter with our O-Line situation?

Plus, why not give him a year (or two) to learn the system and add a little weight? If they are close in ability then I think this is logical enough. JMO. V,B.

I also think that Bray hasnt quite reached that point where he will lay it all out. Hes still very young and has plenty of time to develop. If a fire gets lit under Brays arse though, were in for one exciting QB battle to take the first snap on Septmber 4th. I just dont think Bray is there yet. He will be, and when he does he will be one of the best in the SEC.

I don't understand the negavols angle you were playing here. Are you just enamored with the word such that you feel the need to work it in or is it just some catch all comment for those who disagree with you?

Is there any chance that if Bray doesn't take a snap this season he could be redshirted? I mean, if Simms gets hurt then yeah, put him in. Or if Simms just blatantly sucks. But if possible, can Bray take a redshirt? I could see Nance being a Tebow type power running quarterback, or just someone to hand the ball off. But to be able to have Bray for 5 years would be amazing. Is there any chance of that?

Thats why youre not the coach. You cant just kick a kid of the team if he is doing something stupid. Then it would get real ugly for us cause there would be no one left to play. Youre dealing with an 18-21 year old demographic here. Not politicians.
1. Simms' pot smoking, as far as we know, is no longer happening. I haven't heard any rumors of him hitting the hippie lettuce. Therefore, I don't really care what he did at Louisville. It is the past and if he has cleaned up his act that is irrelevant.

2. In my post I stated that if Bray is head and shoulders better than Simms then Bray should be the guy. If he is markedly better then you just hope he matures.

3. 159 passses in 269 attempts for 2204 yards in 10 games. He had 17 TD’s and 12 INT’s. Those are not AMAZING stats for Simms but I don't think you can honestly categorize them as "poor". Beyond that, coaches can't base this decision on Simms' Juco stats and Bray's highschool stats. Both are skewed and have little to do with how they will perform in the SEC.

4. Bray may better be the better long term QB because of his high ceiling. However, if you tell me Simms can win us 7 games this year and Bray will win us 5 then I say start Simms. I don't care about "getting the young guy experience" at the expense of a losing season. Obviously this is a hypothetical situation. None of us know how many games either guy could win.
Any college that doesn't know how to get past the marijuana screen test these days shouldn't be in college (or so I've heard).

Lets just stop for 1 second.......and think about what the discussion is.

T. Bray vs M. Simms.....wow that is sad!!!! Can Larry Smith transfer from Vandy and play tomorrow????? That would be an upgrade!

I get what your saying, but man, you sound just like my mom. In an idealistic world there would be rainbows everyday and unicorns would frolic amongst the clovers, but this is not Never Never land my friend.

These are kids and kids just do dumb and rebellious things. They live their lives with reckless abandon. Such is the peril of youth. Many will have to make mistakes and learn from them. I know I thought I knew everything back then. Boy was I WRONG!!! lmao :mf_surrender::thumbsup:

I don't really mind the weed especially when you compare it to a cocaine or crack abuser. They are seriously night and day, having talked to enough people to understand the grasp of crack especially. I really don't understand how you can legally consume infinity amount of whiskey shots and say thats okay yet take a hit off a joint off to jail you go. I guess the 400 billion dollar year industry/ operation will always be tax free. I'd prefer no one consume anything,or smoke anything, but this is the real world.

If I recall rightly, the middle finger as shown is the Japanese sign language term for "brother" or elder brother, can't recall exactly which. It's so nice to see we're all getting along so well here we can call each other brother.
Makes you feel all warm and fuzzy. Hello :finger3:

Is quaterbackless a word?

If you mean "quarterbackless" it certainly is when you loaned a "brother" a quarter and he won't pay it back later. That makes you quarterbackless cause you have less quarters than you did before the loan.

I dont either outside of football, but I just dont understand why you would risk your career for it.

And to all you others who jumped my arse for saying I would kick a kid off the team, if you read what I said, Give them one chance, They get caught doing something serious like using illegal drugs even, (whatever illegal drug it is) punish them, suspend them, whatever... But if after that punishment, they don't learn their lesson and they go back to doing the same stupid crap, then they obviously dont need to be representing the University of Tennessee.

If they aren't playing sports, by all means, smoke as much weed as you want, but if you are in the position to influence young children (like mine for instance) then you shouldnt be allowed to do whatever you want as long as you are a good football player.

I guess because I am in the military and have been for a while, I have a different take on this situation. I have smoked hippy grass when i was in college, back in the day, but when I came in the military told me I couldnt or I wouldnt be able to stay in and serve my country. I love serving my country, I get a great sense of pride and accomplishment from it. So, I made the decision to represent my country in a positive light and not use illegal drugs. And if I did, I would expect to suffer the punishment, even if it meant a dishonerable discharge because i made the decision to do it even though I know it's wrong.

I just think the rules should be the same for these football players. I was their age when I came into the military, so are lots of folks, if I can follow the rules and represent my country with pride, why cant they represent my school, my state and my favorite football team with that same mindset?

How are you one to say someone shouldnt do something in the privacy and comfort of their home (or dorm). For all we know the whole team could do it. Thats has nothing to do with the influence of your children. Your children will see them play on saturdays, maybe make a big play and be a hero. Thats the influence athletes have on children. Its been that way for years and it will continue for years to come. They will be completely oblivious to what happens after a game. If someone gets to the NFL, makes a boatload of money, and does stuff completely stupid and careless knowing the media will be all over them, they should be labeled as an idiot. Not a reason for a parent to say that player has had a poor influence on their child. Its the parents job to provide the proper influences for their children in the first place.

The military and college are a little off based as far as comparisons go. The military turns boys into men. In most cases, men wont make the same decision a D1 college football player would.
