Q Dormady officially named backup. What you expected?

Its one thing to clamor for the backup QB when you have a mediocre starting QB. Its another when your starting QB is getting buzz as a darkhorse heisman candidate by most media pundits and you are clamoring for a true freshmen to replace him.

Look I didn't join this site to start calling people out for their overt or subcounsious racism, however, I fail to see any other rational reason to explain why so many on here are clamoring for Dobbs to get replaced. It would be one thing if he was a mediocre returning QB like Worley last season. But the kid is getting buzz as a heisman contender. He's getting votes on the pre-season all-sec teams. He's one of the main reasons folks outside of Tennessee are so high on our team this upcoming season.

I seriously can't think of a logical reason why a Tennessee football fan would be yearning to have Dobbs replaced by Dormady unless you were related to Dormady or you have issues with seeing a black man starting at QB.

Either show me even mediocre percentage of people calling for Dobbs to be replaced or admit that this is all in your head.

I saw NASAVOL, that's 1 out of thousands of members. If given time, can you provide any form of a list or not?

Some people always have to throw the race card out. Charger didn't say a dang thing wrong and you should apologize for your remarks.

Does all this Dormady hype come from

gut feelings?

The spring game where he threw an interception that was dropped by the db and missed a wide open player in the end zone on another play?

The media saying "he looks good for a true freshman"? (which is far from "next Peyton Manning" as some silly posters have suggested)

The practice video clips where we see each QB take like 4 of their 200 reps (excellent sample size)

His high school tape? (I know we have some big high school tape experts here)

I honestly hope he is the greatest player of all time...I am just not sure I fully understand how some are so sure he is the second coming. Personally, I'm just gonna wait until he proves it out on the big stage.

The most mind numbing part of this is that Dobbs is the most agreed upon player on the entire team, only equaled by Barnett. Go to any thread about a position and look at the differing opinions.
Nobody can agree on the lines or the rotation, people argue if our flashy receivers or stability like Pig is better, hel*, we debate if K-mac or experience should start.

The only 2 people on the entire team that have a 95% approval rating are Dobbs and Barnett and you actually want to pretend that it's a split???? Do you fully appreciate how rare it is for any QB to have that much support? When did that happen last, the 90's?

I personally thought from watching highlights Sherion Jones was more talented that Dormady, but Dormady was an EE and i think thats what helped him win the backup job. I think JG is more talented then both of them and if Hunter Johnson comes in in 2017 hes more talented then all 3 and then its looking good for Trevor Lawrence in 2018 and hes rated the overall #1 prospect in the nation for 2018. So we should have some great QB battles for the next few years.

What "highlights"? High school film? Haven't seen much to judge since Sheriron got on campus...not enough to overrule the coaching staff. Excited at both the youngsters potential.

Yes i was referring to high school film. There's nothing to really judge SJ in college. Just like you i am extremely excited about the 2 young quarterbacks we have. I trust Butch if he says QD is our 2nd string quarterback i will roll with his decision. But out of all the guys i mentioned Trevor Lawrence is the most talented of the 5 in mention earlier. Im extremely excited about JG as well i feel like he is the absolute perfect fit for this system. Im glad the staff went so hard after JG and let Austin Kendall walk.

I watched some 8th grade film at a camp for Lawrence...you're right.

Just a few weeks before the season and you have to wonder, what are the odds that Dormady is Tennessee's QB come mid October? You just never know in college football what is going to happen, we've all watched in dismay as UT struggled to compete with Vandy's and the Troy's, bygone days I pray.

I think Dobbs stays until as a senior. He's not the type to bolt out of graduating.
Dormady and Jones will not be redshirted.
We will need 3 for sure in case 1 goes down.
Next year :
Sr. Dobbs
Soph: Dormady
Soph: Jones
FR RS: Guarantano

I expected it all along. He's a strong-armed QB. The only issue I see is his style is quite a bit different than Dobbs. If we have to use Dormandy the playbook will change quite a bit.

Jones was higher on their board but committed to another school. They took QD AND WERE HAPPY about it. Peterman leaves. Jones decommits and we jump on it. QD enrolled early and is really good and should be the backup. However, until game snaps for any of them, no one including the COACHES know who will best lead this team in 2017. That include the G man from Jersey as well. This is what long term successful programs try to do.

I bet Jones gets a RS this year. Why not?

Since he's not on the roster? You bet! :acute:

I just hope that this doesn't turn into the Dobbs, Worley, RF fiasco where people that prefer one QB over the other spends the season spewing against the others. We are blessed with 3 good play callers. I really like Dormady but Dobbs is the man and deserves to be so. Aim for the stars AstroDobbs.

Dobbs has proven what? he can scramble?

Who's the better passer?

1. That he can be the starting qb that leads the offense and his team to 3 wins in 4 games to get to a bowl game

2. That he can complete 63% of his passes

3. That he can be the first Tennessee qb ever to throw for 300 yds and run for 165 yds in a single game

4. That he can throw 9 td passes in fewer than 6 full games despite 4 of the team's top wrs being either not healthy or missing altogether in those games.

9 pages of chatter and not one word on a glaring fact. The O coordinator and QB coach has changed for Dobbs. Coach Debo claim to fame is pro style qb. Hence Dormandy should be the beneficiary. Dobbs may not be benefitting either. Hope I'm off base here, but on surface appears to have merit.

1. It's Dormady...D-o-r-m-a-d-y. No "n"....Dormady. Door-muh-dee. Dormady...not DormaNdy

2. Haven't read that Butch has changed his offense/offensive scheme/offensive philosophy. Al I've heard or read to this point is that Debord may add a wrinkle or two, that given Hurd's natural strength which is as a powerful, downhill runner, that it's expected, though not necessarily confirmed, that he's going to add some more traditional power running formations/schemes/plays to the offense. But iirc, Debord shares Butch's offensive philosophy and was actually the one who initially conceived and developed it back in the day before Butch adopted it as his own at his two previous head coaching stops and now at Tennessee.

Could be wrong, you may be right, we should know soon. Please stop misspelling our backup qb's last name. Thanks.
