I advise you either get a pet insurance policy or start a savings account for vet bills.

My sister has two westies and she dropped about 10K at the vet last year on them. Apparently the pure bred versions are very prone to illness and injury.

Wow. My dad didn't have problems with his until the male was about 13 or so. Then it was major problems, but not 10K worth.

Hmmm, we did tons of research on them and found that they are not very prone to disease. However, your sister obviously proves this wrong. Did she get them from a puppy mill?
