Put Jon Crompton Back In

I tend to agree. I've never seen our cupboards so bare/inexperienced in the qb area.

My God, NS is a sophomore who has played in 4 games, 5 if you count the mop up against UAB, and already people don't think he can get any better. Statements like that are exactly why mike Hamilton doesn't listen to the fans. Most don't have a clue. If a player is already as good as he can get with that amount of experience, why would you ever redshirt anyone(other than injury). Sometimes fans get it, but to say Nick will never get better is just crazy. He hasn't even had an off season with the first team.

He is a RS Soph., if doesn't get it in his third year on campus it likely will never happen.

I think we just had one go over our heads. This is evidently Cotton's attempt at humor. I get it now. Ha, Ha.

The Dear Nick letter was a bit of artistic license, but I'm completely serious about doing something else, even if that something includes the fallen angel.

This offense is lousy. I was an English major, and, truth be told, I don't really have the vocabulary to describe how bad it is. And despite all of the support for St. Nick, the best thing people seem to be able to say about it is that it doesn't turn the ball over, which is not really what I would consider the goal of the offense to be.

We are 107 in scoring offense, and 112 in total offense, and it isn't getting better. We have Vandy, UK, and SC left on the schedule, and all three have pretty good defenses. All three offenses struggle, but we are going to have to find a way other than Eric Berry interception returns to put points on the board to any hope of postseason play, no matter how unappealing a Liberty Bowl bid might be. While I agree that he hasn't been the only problem, I have seen nothing from Nick Stephens that would indicate he is the answer.

Yeah, put in the guy that's performed worse. That will fix it.

Damn, all these pro-Stephens threads and comments are making my head spin. Ohh wait, they don't exist, it must be vertigo or something.

How about an offensive line and a sign of a running game. Peyton Manning would look average with 2nd and 9 and 3rd and 9 the entire game.

Decent play calling would be good.......you know stephens has had such a great path to start on! i've said it before and i'll say it again.......different coordinator, same play calling!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:banghead2:

Crompton will never play again at UT. Add his name to the list of inglorious former UT quarterbacks. The likes of which include C.J. Leak, Moses Collins, Burney Veasey, Randy Sanders, A.J. Suggs and on and on........!!!

I would be on board with experimenting somewhat with Coleman, but putting Crapton back in there is a stupid idea. Stephens isn't setting the world on fire, but he certainly isn't doing any worse than Crompton, and he has more potential. The fact that we're even having this problem, with Crompton being a national Top 5 QB recruit out of high school, should be enough to tell you that Crompton should stay on the bench. He had his chance, and he blew it. It's time to move on and see how Stephens develops.

At one point, I thought that this would be crazy talk... but does anyone ever think that maybe just maybe Fulmer isn't running the right system of offense for a player like Crompton? I would think that the spread option would be a much better system for Crompton, an athletic QB who isn't as accurate or bright as someone like Ainge. I realize this discussion is academic, and I also realize Crompton is done here, but is anything UT doing maximizing current talent? I doubt it.

This season is toast...playing some young guys on the O-line to get ready for next year seems like a good plan to me.

Poor performance at QB is initiated by zero respect for the Vols O-line.....not sure who could survive at QB position this year.

Finally, I would like to see a top notch QB recruit look at this situation and grab the opportunity to take control for 4 years.

Dear Nick, thank you so much for all you have done for us. You were there when times were tough, and gave us a shoulder to cry on. I really thought we might have something good going, but after four weeks, it just isn't working out. I'm going back to Jon, but hope we can still be friends.

That's right, I said it. Stick the Volunteer pariah back under center. Risk fumbled handoffs or passes to Fulmer in hopes that something might finally click and shake up what is easily the worst offense I have ever seen fielded at UT.

Consider that we are averaging an anemic 17.5 points per game since switching quarterbacks. That number, though terrible, doesn't really tell the whole story, however, as 14 of those points came by the defense, and 10 have come as direct results of turnovers. Even without discounting the meaningless, phantom penalty aided late touchdown last night, that puts the offense responsible for 11.5 per game. How many games is that going to win?

At least with Crompton, there was the possibility of getting better. Right now, I see an offense that doesn't do anything well. Change it back, or change it up, but change it. I actually couldn't believe we kept running the same personel out there last night time and time again to do the same thing, when it obviously wasn't working (and hasn't all season.)Doing the same thing three times in a row and then punting is going to continue to get the same results.

Are you trying to make everyone here think you are stupid?

Did you even watch Crompton play?

Stephens hasn't set the world on fire but he at least can hand the ball off and look at more than one receiver on a given pass play...

Put Crompton back in.....HA!!! ...thanks....I needed a good laugh this morning

Think about what you're saying....Stephens hasn't been great at all....but you're solution is to replace him with someone who has proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that he is even more inept

It all comes down to this.....Who does Peyton Manning and Eric Berry want as our starter?

Its obvious by now that tennessee's QB of the future is still in a highschool huddle somewhere. Not a knock on stephens, but there was a reason he was the backup.

I think cotton has a point. Nick is struggling with the touch passes and anything underneath. Probably why he wasn't considered for the starting position to begin with.

I guess you could give BJ a shot. He's just too far behind, teams would continue to load the box and make him beat them. No one will stop loading up on us the rest of the year. We need a guy in there that can make a throw. This season is in the toilet anyway. BJ should probably get a shot. But i know how phil thinks. He wants these last games and a bowl game. We won't see coleman, maybe crompton again.
