0-5... 3 straight years in the SEC... No matter how you arrived at 0-5. You got there, again.. Hopefully the standards and bar is set a little higher than this..

My point in writing a thread, was not to cultivate a mass movement but to extend a personal opinion, which is the reason for forums. How can we reprimand our players for acting out of character, when as a fan, we act with such shallowness and condemn a man for trying to do his best? That is fine to compare our fans to others, but as a person with an opinion I would like to see my fellow vol fans hold themselves to a higher standard.

The bottom line is, as you said, he failed. Some people are going to despise the man for it, others will give him a pat on the back and tell him he gave it his best. This is going to be the legacy...I don't think a vol forum can change that. I really like your op, and I agree...but this is just the nature of the game. I believe fulmer is proof of this. The man won the nc and led us to ALOT of victories. Some of us choose to pat him on the back, others still choose to trash him. Considering dooley didn't win near as many games, the trashing will be worse for him

I truly hope vol fans are not as dumb as they act in these fourms. Game at USC gave DD another year
:good!:

Other than nc state, I think this was his best complete game as far as 1st and 2nd half. We competed the WHOLE game and were in it all the way til the final sack/ int. Only complaints were defensive schemes on certain downs that we gave up big plays (that's on sal) and running a pass play with 3 timeouts within field goal range. Should've played more conservative to run the clock down and either go for the W or go to OT with final seconds on the clock. That being said I've always been a supporter for my coach but after the fla let down followed by every game after. its too little too late with our fan base, we need a new face of hope. I will not bash Dooley once or IF he is gone, I will say thank you for the players you brought in and thank you for your efforts to revibe this university.

I don't recall seeing many posts where people dislike him as a person. Most like him but hate his coaching results. Some of you get the 2 mixed up.

Well, I agree. How many times have we heard "like dooley as a person, but he's not the right guy". I'm in that boat, but there has been ALOT of resentment built up lately, and I think it will carry over into his legacy

+1

"We see improvement". "They are getting better".

Losing by less does not mean you are getting better. I swear to God it's like our fans have become Vandy. Keeping it close, is like a win now at Tennessee.

That's a head scratcher... Please do tell how Dools will luck into another year because of the USCe game. He said it himself in his depressing presser after the game, "We don't get a 1/2 W (moral victory) for losing close." [Paraphrased]

I'm not going to predict anything and I'd love Gruden (I'm not a believer until the ink is dry) but regardless of who'd be the new coach I'd be shocked as H3LL if Dooley sees 2013 employed by UT.

That's cool and all, but the whole dooley taking a job no one wanted thing is a little off. It was a HUGE promotion for him and he's made alot of money. I wish him the best

It is an example for ANYONE thinking of taking a job at Tennessee. "If you fail or take too long they will crusify you":hi:

As far as Gruden: How long does he stay? Would LOVE to have him but, it will be more like kiffen than Fulmer.

Volnation and guests,

I want to take the time and thank everyone for being such avid supporters of Tennessee Athletics through the good and the bad.

As a fan and member of Volnation I see the impact this forum and forums related have on influence and morale of the fanbase. Things (Rumors) that are introduced here stir up some of the conversations that make national headlines. That being said, look at how Kiffin left the program and the response that followed, a riot in front of media that turned the state in an unconscionable matter. How could someone bring so much hope to the program and leave faster than a thief in the night. How could someone walk away from this great institution? Well, regardless of his motives, which are immaterial, the University was distraught and had no direction to turn. Faced with enormous budget cuts and numerous NCAA investigations, involving Kiffin and Pearl, the Athletic Department was under huge pressure.

Who knows what coaches were contacted for the head coaching job. We can speculate all day, no one will know, but what we do know is Derek Dooley took the job. Now, for everyone who is already opinionated and wants Dooley gone, I understand and by no means do I disagree. However, I want this forum and fans to realize that the way they act toward Dooley will have an everlasting impact on this program. Meaning, have some CLASS. When Dooley gets fired, do not post Facebook posts trashing the man or belittle him in posters. The man gave his all for TENNESSEE and yes, he failed, yes, he did not win games, but is any one perfect at their job, everyone makes mistakes. When Dooley is let go, applaud the man. We were competive this year against teams all ranked in the Top 15. We have the best O-line in the country. Best receivers in the country. Our talent has improved EVERY YEAR. To come to a conclusion, have some respect for the man who gave up what he had where he was comfortable, have courage enough to take a gig in a league that is probably the most criticized in all of football. Show some gratitude and stand up and THANK COACH DOOLEY FOR TAKING A JOB, few wanted. We will be back in national prominence and Coach Dooley was the foundation that got us there.

Thank you, Volnation

This sounds very good and it has gotten a great amount of likes...2.5 yrs in and he's a failure for this program--that's the embarrassment to this program if he is let go! We're all nothing more than spoiled brats wanting instant gratification and expecting it all now--or the good guy, filled with class and that will not do anything to cause us to be embarrassed, that everyone claims to like--he has to go.

I realize that none of you guys want to listen to reason--CDD's record looks bad enough...but what no one wants to confess when they look in the mirror is that there wasn't a GREAT AMOUNT OF GUYS standing in line for the job! Any of you experts out there in the know--DocVol, JMOORE, Skeeter--any of you reliable guys know who was the next best choice besides CDD?

NO--CDD was SMART,and he knew the job would take at least 4 years and negotiated a fair contract! He knew the cesspool that was UT Football and bought himself some security and enough time to be properly evaluated--and we're throwing the baby out with the bath-water--all in less than 3 years time--BRILLIANT!!! It ain't right--nor does it reflect a fair evaluation of CDD's ability to coach....but I guess you are all gonna shout hurray when it's done....and all in favor of this are no better than that bunch in TUSCALOOSA--that you all mocked when they paid him $4MIL/year! Bunch of hypocritical, inbred, and immature children...Good day--:salute:

Sounds good to me. I personally still like coach Dooley but I just don't think he can get it done. If by some crazy chance he isn't fired and returns next year I'm still gonna support this team!!!!! Go Vols!

Derek Dooley will be as successful as his OC and DC make him. He himself is not going to out X & O any coach in the league....that is why he was a position coach and recruiting coordinator and never an OC or DC for Saban. He is a dictator which is why he is better suited to be an AD than a HC in my opinion.

Good post. Personally, I feel that CDD has done a lot of really great things while at Tennessee. He has made some improvements and had some success where other UT coaches failed miserably. But of course, none of these things are anything the typical fan cares about.

I am in... As our team showed outstanding class during the Marcus Lattimore injury we also need to show class. However it goes.

Why on earth should we thank him? UT gave him a HUGE opportunity and he has failed. He should thank UT and this fan base for allowing him the HUGE honor of walking the same sidelines General Neyland walked. No sir, I'll not thank him for failing.

Although I agree with most that Dooley should go and sooner than later, I also agree that he has moved the program forward andwe are in better shape talent wise than when he took over. Believe it or not, we could have gotten worse and he did keep us from declining even more.

Your son has failed. He will be fired. It is called life. Deal with it and make sure he enjoys the 5 mil parting gift. We owe him nothing more.
